"Forgive us for not saving you from this horrible imprisonment," Shalit said during a protest dinner held across from the prime minister's residence in Jerusalem.
Shalit further called on outgoing prime minister Ehud Olmert to do everything within his power to bring Gilad home before stepping down from office.
"The abduction took place on your watch and therefore it is your obligation to bring him back," Shalit addressed Olmert.
The "Friends of Gilad Shalit" group decided to implement its decision not to celebrate any of the Jewish holidays until the return of Israel's captive soldier.
Instead of celebrating the Jewish New Year, the group held a "captivity dinner," comprising only of the foodstuff Shalit was likely to receive.
