Not more than two weeks ago, two secular pedophiles were sentenced in Tel Aviv - it stuck in my memory because it's the first time I'd ever seen people covering their faces to photographers - but it didn't warrant more than an article and a small photo. Seems that chiloni pedophiles aren't news. True: haredi pedophiles are unusual.

i hate to point the finger at the good Orthodox Jews, but their false beleife in the oral law Talmud, which permits such perversions, perpetuates such evil. If we stuck to the Torah only, without adding or subtracting, we would be in a better state. And would not have to pervert the course of justice, ie perverting the Torah.

Where ever there are children you'll find pedophiles. It would be best if EVERY ADULT who have jobs with children are screened BEFORE they get the job, religious or not. The west reportings exclude Muslims who 'broker' marriages among themselves so, that, an old man 'legally' 'marries' a child sometimes as young as 5 years. Legal Muslim pedophilia. Then ,of course, they stone a woman to death who's been raped and her offspring becomes the next sex slave. Perfect solution for them. Rape and murder the mom and use the child for these sex slaves unreported in the western press. aren't we lucky NOT to be born Muslims?

You can't have it BOTH ways. You cannot arrogantly and imperiously arrogate to yourselves the highest of Torah-true standards and Jewish authenticity, a holier-then-thou position that anyone with a room temperature IQ knows is a myth, AND not expect reportage of corruption and moral decay when one of your hasidim (or mitnagdim) falls from his pedestal. Despite claims to the contrary, Torah-true Jews are still bsar v'dam and susceptible to the same perversions and moral lapses as the rest of the population...they just conceal most episodes and deal with them internally (outside the reach of the malkhuta dina). HAARETZ is not anti-haredi. It reports the news, perhaps with a leftward bent, but this does not make it anti-religious.

There are two separate and distinct stories in the article. 1. A report on a pedophile being sentenced to prison - it should have been a life sentence without possibility of parole. 2. The ususal attempt by HaAretz to wield a wide red paint brush so as to besmirch the entire Haredi community.

Not only in the Jewish orthodox community, also Christian (especially Roman Catholic) and Muslim communities have perverts among their 'teachers'. More so than in 'normal' societies, because religion has many restrictions and tough rules. For some (men) it is too tough and they cannot keep their hands to themselves. Good to read the news about this Haredi teacher being sentenced to 23 years.

its always everybody else's fault. All Yechiel is saying is there are others not just us. He is not in denial.Unlike you who have never ever done anything wrong. If you are in permanent denial there is no room for improvement is there? Read some of your own media lately.

Should read "Teacher Sentenced to 23 Years for Assaulting Minors". The Haredi component to the story should be in the body, not the headline.

yechiel, classic response...divert from the issue and redirect it to others actions...like it makes the problem go away. i think that has to be the most generic jewish defense.

In every prison, from every city, Non Haredi former teachers sit on the floor of their cells contemplating their heinous crimes. A few might wear a kippah, but it is white and blue, not Haredi black. They are everywhere and nowhere. They exist but are not covered by some papers.

The people can be confidentially identified and helped before they become a disaster to their victims their families and themselves. Imagine his children's shidduch situations. We frummies have to accept that we are not immune to problems.

It's important that all forms of sexual abuse be dealt with by the courts, sending out a clear message of no tolerance.
