Netanyahu hopes for Obama meet in November
Netanyahu to travel to Washington for annual general assembly of Jewish federations of North America.
By News Agencies and Barak Ravid Tags: Benjamin Netanyahu Barack Obama Israel newsPrime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will travel to Washington next month for a conference of Jewish organizations and hopes to meet with U.S. President Barack Obama, an Israeli official said on Friday.
The trip comes as the Obama administration is pressing Israel and the Palestinians to do more to help re-launch long-stalled peace talks after the latest flurry of U.S. diplomacy failed to yield any sign of a breakthrough.
It is not certain whether the two leaders will meet, the official from Netanyahu's office said.
Organizers of the annual general assembly of the Jewish Federations of North America said both Netanyahu and Obama would participate in the three-day event, beginning Nov. 8.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton handed Obama this week a less-than-glowing assessment of Middle East peace efforts amid skepticism inside and outside of the region about the prospects for unblocking the peace process.
Obama set Middle East peace as a top priority at the start of his presidency in January, in contrast to his predecessor George W. Bush, who was criticized internationally for neglecting the long-running conflict. But so far the new administration has little to show for its efforts.
Netanyahu, whose right-leaning coalition includes pro-settler parties, has resisted Obama's calls for a total freeze on settlements in the West Bank.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, politically weak because he governs only in the West Bank while Hamas Islamists control the Gaza Strip, has said he will not resume direct talks until a complete settlement freeze is implemented.

Spot on S. Why can't the JFNA meet in Isreal???
The article mentions that Obama's White House has Mid-East Peace a top pripority, then the article continues saying that it has little to show for its efforts. Wait a minute, who ever believes that Mid-East Peace could happen quickly, is wrong. Both sides are focussing on peace and peace talks, which in itself an accomplishment. Obama has put an apparatus for Dipolmacy in place with credible indiviuals and a negociating plan. Peace and peace talks is the only direction. Netanyahu needs to get on board the Obama's "peace train." Every excellent politician can tell his /her base supporters to "go jump;" move in an opposite direction and keep the supports on his side. Is Netanyahu made of that excellent caliber or not?
Oy Bama and his long-time anti-Israel & anti-Semetic team (Rice, Powers, etc) Caused the problem by an opening position of lashing out at Israel -- of wasting no time in initiating their personal attack. The settlements were not an issue until Oy Bama decided to make it an issue -- until he told the Pals that he supported their position and intended to bring down Israel. That's when the settlement issue because a barrier. Only Israel did not fold for Oy Bama and Co. And his own Congress and the majority of the US opinion, including the liberal press, would not support his attack on Israel. So Oy Bama is now in a mess of his own making. He can keep pushing his anti-Israel agenda and worsen the crisis AND his personal standing with Congress and the American people (except for the left-wing anti-Israel minority writing here); or he can take whatever out Netanyahu is offering, and try to salvage the mess he created.
After all Abbas did deliver, Netanyahu did not. Any more concessions from Abbas is surely going to shredd even the small remains of his credibility and is going to directly bolster Hamas prestige, and that in a country where PRESTIGE IS EVERYTHING.
The middle east problem would be solved the day US politicians stop getting scared from Israel. Till then keep serving your masters and waste your time and energy on useless diplomacy, you fools.
Netanyahu (plus Lieberman) was elected because of the Hamas's incessant Qassams. Before a couple of years ago Netanyahu didn't get even half what he got this time. This last Isreali disaster election (and the coming war) is due ONLY to Hamas!
Despite his rhetoric and attitudes, I don't think Netanyahu is related to either Ra or Anubis. He's just a wannabe.
Will Netanyahu recognize Palestine as the NON-Jewish State, with all the implications of that designation? Or would Israel want to clarify that?
There is no point unless Netanyahu has something to offer Obama and it's fully agreed and ratified and verified beforehand. And by ratified and verified, I mean with the signatures of the relevant Ministries and ministers of the Israeli government since any one of them can nix a deal. If Netanyahu has nothing to offer Obama except a photo op and humiliation or empty words, there is no point in a meeting.
so he can be enlighten upon world events...and jewsih demands
Obama has no moves left. His attempt to make Abbas forget settlement freeze and Goldstone - neither worked. His attempt to ship Iran's uranium out did not work. Nothing Obama does works because there is no punishment if you don't listen to Obama. Netanyahu can waste all the time he wants preparing for a meeting with Obama, but nothing will come out of it. Israel is on its own.
You know what I would like to see? I would like to see Palestinian Authority President Abbas being invited to this General Assembly gathering, and given an opportunity to put forward his case for a Palestinian State, while at the same time coming out with a public acknowledgment of Israel as the Jewish State. Imagine the impact such a declaration would have, in this venue? Wow. It would give Abbas a tremendous boost as a serious man of peace, both in the USA and at home, as he heads towards new elections. Now, THAT would be something.
constipated... "unblocking the peace process!"
Netanyahu has taken the US-Israel relationship to a point when he is begging for a meeting with US President, where US does not consult with Israel in Iran talks. Within months, the only choice left for US will be to disconnect from Israel.
Obama's reputation in the ME hangs by a thread - and Netanyahu's camp is sworn to bring it down. So what can Netanyahu tell Obama? Sanction Iran or we will bomb them? Sanction Iran or you, Obama, are history? Maybe I can squeeze a 2 week limited freeze from my right wing coalition?
more talk, obama. you're wasting time. either you act or stop pretending. start real pressure: - money handouts - loan guarantees - goldstone support - unsc veto support - military cooperation - intelligence cooperation - economic support - access to you and your administration - deductible charity only if aligned with your agenda - real support to palestine and palestinians, including negotiations with hamas time.to.act.obama!!!
...if he meets with Netanyahu. Nothing else seems to be going well for Obama....maybe it is time for him to take another road.
We know Obama wants it, and we'll find out how far he's willing to go to get it.
