Netanyahu at Yad Vashem: World must stop calls to destroy Israel

PM speaks at opening of exhibition showing original blueprints of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp.

By Nir Hasson Tags: Benjamin Netanyahu Iran Holocaust Israel news

The world must stop new attempts to destroy the State of Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial museum in Jerusalem on Monday.

"There is evil in the world, and it doesn't stop, it's spreads," the premier said at the opening of an exhibition which includes the original blueprints of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi death camp.

Netanyahu said that "there is a new call to destroy the Jewish state, it's our problem, but not only our problem."

"This is a crime against the Jews, and a crimes against humanity, and it is a test of humanity," the Israeli PM said adding, that "we shall see in the following weeks whether the international community deals with this evil before it spreads.

The Yad Vasehm collection, "Architecture of Murder," includes 29 plans given to Netanyahu during a visit to Germany last August.

Netanyahu later brandished some of the documents at the United Nations to denounce Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for calling the Holocaust a lie.

The exhibition in Jerusalem includes four of the colored sketches showing detailed aerial views of the camp and blueprints of its bunks and one of its crematoriums. Tens of thousands of other prisoners, including Polish, Roma and Soviet prisoners of war, also died at Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest of the Nazi's concentration camp complexes.

After attending the exhibition's official opening today, Netanyahu will travel to Poland to take part in a ceremony marking 65 years since the camps' liberation by the Red Army.

Since you mentioned the famous date of 1893 in your post, I merely used that to state that we are no longer in the seventeenth or eighteenth or nineteenth century, when colonisation was a matter of fact. I do not wish to contend whether CGs are retroactive or not. I simply wish to say that the British had no business deciding the fate of Palestine--or any other country in the Middle East. Decilaring that a homeland should be established for a non-native group in a country that already had a population was criminal. It led to major conflict, with acts of terrorism by Zionists. The British were forced to leave, their tails dragging and muddied, hated by both Arabs and Jews. King Abdallah of Jordan wrote a letter in 1947, begging that Palestine not be partitioned. Albert Einstein also warned of the insanity in a famous letter. The partition was unfair, giving a greater portion of Palestine to the minority. What were the Arabs supposed to do? Just lie back and get shafted?

Read Jabotinsky. He was there in 1923. The Arabs were most certainly interested in keeping their land. Jabotinsky stated that very clearly, using words like "nation" and "birthright." The Arabs revolted against the British, then started attacking Jews, around 1929. That should tell you something. And there were not that many Jews settled there yet. Mark Twain did not visit every inch of Palestine, he went from one major site to another, travellng through barren parts where current hostilities were keeping villagers at home. Read his description of Nablus, which is described as a most fertile haven. Also, Twain described Greece as totally desolate and barren, but the Greeks got to keep their country after the Ottomans were defeated, unlike the Palestinians.

The Arabs rejected partition in 1948. Since then, their leadership has betrayed them over and over again. They only started to claim the land when the Jews started to improve it. They had no interest before that. Mark Twain visited during the late 19th century and wrote about how desolate the land is and that he traveled for a long time and did not see anyone. It is up to the Palestinian Leadership to stop screwing their people. They have to settle things in their own house first and decide who is running things. Hamas and Fatah are so far apart. It is hard to believe they are from the same people.

Do you think Europeans even give a rats ass about you and/or your people? The only time people actually pay attention is when there is a news event regarding war or peace, the rest of the time we couldn't care less... and the rest of the world just wants peace and a solution for the middle east not Netanyahu's manipulative ways! What's good for you is not necessarily good for the rest of the world! Oh and about your comment regarding being strong and not needing Obama... hahaha ... one day without the US would be the end!

...English Classes. I started off by stating that the Ottoman Empire since 1683 defeat in Vienna, wanted Access to Europe, coinciding with the reasons why the British were in the ME in the first place, which is IRREFUTABLE: THE OTTOMANS DECLARED WAR ON THE BRITISH, SIDING WITH THE GERMANS IN WWI. I then explained that GC's are not retroactive, MEANING CAN'T BE APPLIED TO EVENTS BEFORE ENACTMENT. SO EXACTLY WHAT YOU"VE STATED I"VE STATED. WHAT THE BRITISH DID WAS NOT ILLEGAL THEN, ONLY ILLEGAL BY TODAY'S STANDARDS BUT SINCE GC IS NOT RETROACTIVE IT IS OF NO CONSEQUENCE. DO YOU UNDERSTAND? NOW IF YOUR CONTENTION IS BALFOUR DECLARATION AND THE RIGHT OF ISRAEL TO EXIST THAT IS A DIFFERENT ISSUE. PALESTINE HAD EVERY CHANCE TO BE FREE AND STILL CAN BE, IN 47-8 THE PEOPLES AND THEIR REPRESENTATIVES, PALESTINIANS AND ARABS CHOSE AGAINST IT, BY BOYCOTTING PARTITION PLAN AND REFUSING PEACE OFFERINGS FOLLOWING MAJOR WARS, & FURTHER AGGRAVATED BY TERRORISM AGAINST CIVILIANS.

Eli, you start off with premise that we are still living by the rules of 1683. There is simply no justification for what the British did in 1917 by issuing the Balfour Declaration. Their own empire was to fall apart soon and yet they were acting as if the land were their own to mete out as they pleased. India is free, Algeria is free, Senegal is free... Occupied Palestine is still to be free.

How much was bought, Alan? Not enough to be able to declare a state, your dismissal of the facts is facile and self-serving. Read Jabotinsky's "O Zheleznoy stene ("On the Iron Wall")," 1923. He was there, he tells the truth. Jabotinsky in 1923 declared that the natives would never give up their "birthright." Jabotinsky and the other Zionists were the haters, loathing the Arabs and insulting them.

Allan, great posts, one thing to note than when dealing with douche bags like Paul is to ask. So please show me where you write on Arab state talkbacks regarding their treatment of Palestinians, or do you believe that it is ok for Arab states to be absolutely horrible to Palestinians. As well Paul, your argument regarding how Palestinians just paid their taxes etc... is incorrect and shows that most likely you don't give a damn about Palestinians in Arab states, rather just showing bad things against Israel. PLO was founded in 1964 in Jordan, Palestinian aspirations for a state were what caused several massacres against Palestinians by Arab States, Black September, is a great example, often times these massacres followed a terrorist attack by the PLO. So Paul, please show us your posts on Arab news sources where you critique ALL WHO ARE WRONG TO PALESTINIANS, NOT JUST JEWS or JEWISH STATE

Why were the Brits there? Because Ottoman's declared war on them, siding with Germans, in hopes to gain access to Europe something they'd wanted since losing Battle of Vienna 1683. At this time, Obtaining Land through war was justified, legally, provided certain conditions were met, so when you examine the past with today's legal lens yes you will find things that are today illegal, but if the law is not retroactive it is of no consequence. Secondly, If you read the documents you will note that Arabs were not to get a state of their own, but yes, since they were unwilling to share on land that was no longer theirs since they lost it in war. Which leads to point 3, how did Saudi Arabia, Jordan, come into existence? Well the British awarded the Arab tribes that faught alongside them, hence House of Saud, Hashemites etc... you forget this and it is important. Arabs in Palestine could have sided with Brits too, they didn't, as such there is an Israel today, and not 1 large Jordan.

Eric - The Answer to Your Question is Quite Easy and Found in 47
    • Eli
    • 26.01.10
    • 18:37

Hi Eric, Well I guess its prudent to firstly show that you are incorrect, the "Zionists" accepted Partition in 47. And if Palestinians didn't like Arab State negotiating on their behalf they should never have let them, and should have actively stated that this is not our voice, rather than BOYCOTTING PARTITION AGREEMENT. THIS IS A FACT. Now in 47 Partition, the idea was TWO STATES FOR TWO PEOPLES the wording of the agreement clearly states ON JEWISH STATE AND ONE ARAB STATE. So, if you create a Two State Solution that has a right of return to Israel and not a Palestinian State such that Israel as a Jewish State as per 47 Partition TEXT is destroyed, or same with a UNI STATE WHERE THIS SAME CHARACTER THAT WAS ENTRENCHED IN ISRAEL'S FOUNDING IS LOST. WOLVES IN SHEEPS CLOTHING, OPENLY SAY YES TO TWO STATES, PROVIDED THE JEWISH STATE IS "IMPLODED" SHORTLY AFTER THE AGREEMENT. THIS IS NOT CALLED 2STATES, U NEEDN'T BE IN MENSA TO GET IT, BUT I GUESS ITS NOT EVIDENT TO ALL.

They use Israel to hide this. By the way, you're line about some of your good friends being Jews is very revealing. I never accused you of Anti-Semitism. Many people say that to deny it.

The "Zionist Settlers" as you call them bought their land from absentee Arab Landowners. Nothing was stolen. Many Arabs moved there after the Zionists improved the land. The Arabs of pre 1948 Palestine rejected Partition because they thought they could drive Israel into the Sea and have the whole thing. Wrong. Arafat and Abbas rejected offers that were too generous. You know that if things worked out, they would prosper. This proves that they did not want peace. Please don't write more hate.

The ones who are doing the most they can to destroy Israel are the Israelis themselves. Practically every day news media around the world publish information on abuses committed by the Israeli government against Palestinians. Little by little people, like me, who before were supporters of Israel are now convinved that there can be no peace in the Middle East as long as Israel exists. As An American, a country that still continues to support Israel ( But every day less) I believe that terrorist activities against us will decline or stop if we stop supporting Israel. My solution? A painful one that works as we know from South Africa: Embargoes to force the formation of a one state solution.

God promised His people the land and a multitude of blessings if they would obey Him. After times of disobedience and idol worship God sent them punishment but, He also told them that in the last days He would bring them back. Saying it is the 'last days' means the devil also knows this and is doing everything in his power to distroy God's land and people. The devil is also the one hardening people's hearts and causing the hatred of the Jew. If we listen to the devil, we are also bringing distruction to ourselves. Be on God's side!!

Thousands of years ago God gave the land to Israel and said He would put His name in Jerusalem. Because of disobedience they were driven from the land 'but' God said He would bring them back. God also said that in the last days Jerusalem would become a 'stumbling block'. And, today the division of Jerusalem is just that. Also, in 1948 the land was given back to the Jews. Now everyone wants to take it away. This only proves man can't be trusted but God can. This is not just the Jews land but God's.

was to destroy Israel." Since there was no Israel before 1948, what were the Arabs trying to do before that? They were trying desperately to keep their land from being stolen. From the time of the nefarious Balfour Declaration in 1917, the Arabs protested the British decision to impose a demographic alteration of Palestine with the influx of immigration from Europe. The Jewish population was only about 9% (this relatively high number due to Zionist settlers since the 19th c). The British had promised Palestine self-determination. Now the Arabs were being betrayed and threatened with colonisation. How did anyone expect them to react? And they are still reacting.

So I did it and here is what I've found. It is not about occupation at all! It severely injures the entire fabric of life." http://www.seamzone.mod.gov.il/Pages/ENG/execution.htm So Marty aka Labhras, can you explain where you get your informations from? Alan, I will always say it like I see it. I've been known to be brutally honest, blunt, and don't sugarcoat a thing. As for your question, why there wasn't a pal state established when jordan and egypt were in control of the territories is quite simple: the Pals were already accustomed to having their country controlled by outside Arab states, and Jordan and Egypt were in line with the status quo as pathetic as that may seem. The Pals simply paid their taxes and were left to their own devices for the most part. After the 67 war when the Pals were essentially on their own, their leaders sucked and still do to this day. PM Salaam Fayyed is the only exception in my eyes. Also thanks for stating it correctly by saying that my hatred is towards Israel Proper and not Jews. Some of my good friends happen to be Jewish.

As before, it matters nought what Israel (or the Jews) does or does not do, whether it is right or wrong, defensive or attacking, the world is on its back, again. I am an adult who as a child never felt the loving touch of any grandparents as they together with scores of cousins, siblings, families perished in the Shoah. They live on in the gaps in our family tree and in pictures on our walls. But today, again, like a lightning rod, the Jews are focused on as targets, and Israel is under threat. Again, the world's problems are scapegoated onto Israel. I say, get off our backs, you anti-Semites, stop riding on our coat-tails to make you feel better. We have had enough of you. Israel must remember the Shoah. the world must remember and declare loudly NEVER AGAIN, forever and ever.

What does he want us to do to stop calls to destroy Israel? And if we do so what do we get in return? And I don't want the destruction of Israel the number of Israelis with dual british nationality returning enmass would cause a refugee crisis similar to when Idi Amin kicked Asians out of Uganda. I just want Israel to abide by International Law, act like a civilised country and respond to the goldstone report as required by the United Nations. Which is what this speech by netanyahu is all about. Israel is going to refute the Goldstone report on Wednesday. I do not expect to have to tell you what day Wednesday is. Stephen Harper the Prime Minister of the Earth's Largest (land mass) country, known as Canada, (durson we are just north of the 49th parralel) Well if you read the news from around then you will note that he supported Israel whole-heartedly. The Harper Minority Government has been a true friend to the Jewish State of Israel. As, someone who voted for this government, I have been very pleased with many of their policies regarding Israel. Jason Kenney, will one day be Prime Minister of this great country and I hope to vote for his party (his riding won't be Toronto) Eitherway, Durson, there are nations out there with Balls, Big ones, bigger than USA (have you ever seen a CFL and NFL ball side by side!), ones that allow them to stand up for thier beliefs and not play get nervous due to political storms. To hold a clear course, through any storm, that is how we are here, so don't use everybody as it doesn't work.

At least you are honest about your hatred towards Israel unlike Natalie and Chris who try to hide it. All this about the poor Pals. Why didn't anyone set up a Palestinian State between 1948 and 1967 when Jordan and Egypt controlled this territory? Don't worry. You don't have to answer it. All the Arabs wanted to do was to destroy Israel. It's not going to happen.

As a Holocaust survivor I thank you for your sober and sane perspective. The real truth is that the "noble victims" are very few and far between in this world, and after them are a lot of very sanctimonious bandwagon jumpers who use every excuse as an opportunity and in the process they cheapen the original victims' memories to a point where they pervert and mock them. Many of those bandwagoners are in this column and they are lead by the demagogue of a prime minister who always knows a good press opportunity when he sees it just to score a few more points and be leader for one more hopeless minute.

... And it belongs to a country that has done this world a great justice, despite what many wish to think the USA has done more GOOD for this world than any country out there. Sure its done a shitload of bad too, but, when you consider its position, especially compared with superpowers in history, no nation has brought that much wealth, prosperity, and health to the earth as the USA has, yes it could do better, but that doesn't negate its past good. That said, the Moon has a flag on it, a Good Flag even if its leader may fight with peoples from a country with a GREAT Flag, a blue and white flag with 1 star. eitherway, Israeli's stick to earth, the moon belongs to the Yanks anyways, they stuck a flag in it first. Please refer to case#2056/04 Beit Zourik v israel the Israeli High Court of Justice ruled that land as being Held under Belligerent Occupation By Israel. Ergo as Israel is the occupier it cannot also be the sovereign. Ergo the land is not disputed and your someone did not just build a house---they threw out the owners and then built their house. They then proceed to beat up ther former owner if they complained. Get real Eli---your dream of a greater Israel (an oxymoron) is finished---never going to happen. Did you ever get a real schoolyard lesson---stand up to a bully and if he threatens you ---hit him hard---from behind if that is what it takes and where it hurts permanent like. Only way to stop him. Do not expect Palestinians to sit down and cower to zionist thieves and war mongers masqeurading as eternal victims and the most badly treated people on the planet. There never was a palestinian national arab identity, no history no leaders. Durson, perhaps you missed a school yard lesson, notably, that just because someone does something you don't like, for example building a house on land that is disputed, doesn't give you the right to go and blow up some people who share the same religion as the person building the house. Now your line of:"until suitable weapons fall into the right hands" - well its scary that you call it the Right Hands, ussually if what will happen is wrong, the murdering of millions of innocent civilians, people say the "wrong Hands" now if you do not want Israel destroyed, can we then confirm that you are against any two state or uni state solution that tilts the demographics in such a way that destroys Israel, which is the Jewish State that exists in the Middle East. The proposed Palestinian one that the Palesitnians refused to bring into existence by boycotting Partition in 1947 Love to hear this one. Otherwise, how is your post nothing more than BS political posturing?

A few of the hundreds of these are as follows: Israel is only interested in helping Haiti for PR purposes (this just yesterday); Israel is committing genocide on the Palestinians; Israel targets Palestinian civilians; Israel is behind the Iraq War; America's support of Israel is the reason that terrorists attacked on 9/11; the Jews have no claim to Israel; Israeli policies are the cause of anti-Semitism; the Israelis have made no effort to compromise with the Arabs; Syria has been a force for stability and good in Lebanon (This just a couple of days ago); Arabs cannot be anti-Semitic as they are themselves Semites; Israel and American Jews control American foreign policy; Israel is against an independent Palestinian state; Israel controls the American media; no Israel-bashers are anti-Semitic. This is just scratching the surface!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the biggest problem, the cause of all the issues in this crisis: The degree of psychological damage done to the Jewish race by years of subjugation and slaughter combined with the notion of being 'chosen people' leads to this kind of attitude. Talking to many people out in Israel and the OPT I was horrified by how often I came across settlers, security officials who would get a mad (literally) glint in their eyes over this kind of subject and start shouting angry gibberish that would descend into oaths and lusting for fire from heaven and revenge on enemies. It is terrifying, it is sad, it is the cause of the problems and it is what needs to be combated rather than desperate, poor people using checkpoints, tanks, bombs, helicopters and death. Only a tiny minority of people are out for Jewish blood. Most people in the world don't care about their neighbours, let alone the Jews.

"the world" is a bit vague. It is the language of propaganda. Another point is what does destruction of the state of Israel mean? A one state solution with equal rights for all also destroys the current state. One could also claim the current Israeli state is destroying itself and on the way to a nasty theocracy. There are not many states that want to kill the Jews or evict the Israeli from Israel (Not even Iran and Hamas.) Most people accept the fact that the jews in Israel are here to stay, Actually the gravest danger for Israel is the artificial prolonging of the current situation of occupation and war propaganda. In that sense "the world" is Israel itself. For the sake of your grandchildren make a just peace.

Israel doesn't need obama nor the EU...Israel will find a way without them if need be, but ISRAEL will NEVER sacrifice her values or the truth. I guess people just dont get it or dont want to get it..the arabs and islam are the only impediment to world peace..you can blame the jews all you want...it won't stop the arabs from destroying you too if they could...

But over the years, while constantly playing the "victim" card, etc., you have become ungrateful (especially for the the US has done for you), arrogant and incapable of looking into the mirror. You have now become a danger and an enemy of the United States. You are the cause of your many problems and many of ours. You settle illegally (and please don't retreat to the "god gave it to us" BS argument), occupy illegally, and take even dignity from the PALs. Hopefully Mitchell will soon resign, Obama will quit wasting his time, AIPAC will be declared an agent for a foreign power, US donataions for the settlements will be taxed,Jews worldwide will desert you, and the Zionist project as you envision it will collapse.

Apart from the hardliners in Iran's regime, the indisputably deranged in Al-Qaida, Hezbollah and Hamas, fringe minority groups such as Neo-Nazis and other far rightists (bittersweet irony is never far away from them), exactly who are the people calling for Israel's destruction? Israeli citizen asks for a break, are any of you paying attention to the silence from North and South America, Africa, Asia, and most of Europe (not counting again the far rightists in Eastern Europe) regarding calls for the destruction of Israel? Listen to the silence. Count the days on which no Jews are attacked. Count the days on which no swastikas are sprayed on synagogues, count the number of heads of state who do NOT call for Israel's demise ... compare those with the days when there are such incidents, and do the calculation. A minority of events, tasteless as they may be, does not constitute all there is to reality. Is it not time for Israel to start acting like it is an equal in the world?

you mean 45% of euros believe in the blood libel about jews and money..isnt that what this statistic is REALLY about? it's called anti semitism you goof...nothing more, nothing less. the fact is, europe has been rightly guilty for the last 60 yrs because they know what they were COMPLICIT in...and now the new generation is angry at having this guilt to bear..so the real danger in this statistic is that people are now angry at their parents guilt and are openly lashing out at who else? israel... its so typical ...thank god we are now strong.

He is invoking the holocaust for political gain. The other day we saw a survey where many Europeans believe Israeli politicians use the holocaust for gain. Well, Netanyahu is evidence of this. Many of those who died in the holocaust opposed the kind of vision Netanyahu had and would have actually carried arms to fight him. The Bund never supported people like Netanyahu. Since when did those in the holocaust endorse house demolitions and occupation? Never! Never!

Today's Israel, the unchallenged regional superpower, with another people under its thumb, and a tendency to '200 eyes for an eye, 200 teeth for a tooth' is not the spiritual heir either of the Holcaust's tragic victims or of the ghetto fighters of Warsaw. 60 years ago, probably it was, but now now, and not for a long time. Israeli politicians should no longer be the natural choice to speak at Euroepan Holocaust commemorations.

What about Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas in the first place, closely followed by the inveterate Israel-bashers around the world, who pretend to distinguish between hatred against Israel from anti-Semitism? The denial of this reality has no more excuses.

Asking the Israeli authorities to stop developping illegal settlements in the West Bank does hinder peace.

Israel is not the world's problem, Israel is a problem for the world, and the sooner Israeli leaders realize where they stand, the sooner they will stop with the "woe is me" blather, abide by their previous commitment to freeze settlements and work towards making peace with the Palestinians. Only by ending the occupations and making peace with its neighbors will Israel ever find peace and security, but unfortunately Netanyahu is taking Israel in the opposite direction once again.

I am flattered that Bibi makes time to read my posts, but he has managed to get it wrong. I really don't want Israel destroyed, I have only predicted that this is what will happen if Israel continues on its present course. It is only a matter of time, even if it takes another 50 years, until suitable weapons fall into the right hands. Who knows, maybe it will be the worlds biggest suicide bomb, but it will do the job. Israel needs to be full speed ahead on building bridges with neighbors and not rubbing their noses in their American provided military superiority. Bibi needs to go back and reread my posts. Better yet, he needs to make way for someone who is a better reader and listener.

Netanyahu,at Yad Vashem, Stop cringing, asking the wiord to stop calling for the destruction of............... What's wrong with you ? Can't you use exactly those same words on the other side ? Now you're behaving like those Jews in Europe 1924-onwards. You saw the result !? I have extremely harsh words for the behaviour of European Jewry much before WWii. Especially the Jews of Eastern Europe. Now that Israel is a strong & powerful nation, you Netanyahu, sounded today like a Diaspora Jew, without the leadership to organize the million of Jewish youths for Defense & Offence ! But instead, calling on the world to help. Ha! Ha! They Won't help ! At least this should be the working plan. Not to depend on others. This will enable you to find ways & means to enhance Israel's power even more ! Don't believe that nonsense of the 'other'cheek ! The Christians,at every opportunity slapped the other cheek, whenever the occasion arose ! Didn't you know!?
