West Bank court indicts Palestinian teens for murder of Fogel family
Amjad Awad and Hakim Awad were indicted for the murders of five members of the Fogel family - parents and three young children - who were brutally stabbed to death in their home on the settlement of Itamar in March.
Two Palestinians charged with the murder of five members of the Fogel family in Itamar were indicted in a West Bank military court on Sunday.
The suspects, Amjad Awad,19, and Hakim Awad, 18, confessed to the murder and the military prosecution in the case say there is forensic evidence linking them to the scene of the crime, including DNA samples and fingerprints.
Five members of the Fogel family were brutally stabbed to death in their home in the West Bank settlement of Itamar on the night of March 11th. The murderers killed Ehud and Ruth Fogel, along with three of their young children, Yoav, 11, Elad, 4, and Hadas, 3 months old, before fleeing the scene.
According to the indictment, the murder was premeditated, with the suspects observing the settlement from their nearby village of Awarta in order to obtain details about the security system at Itamar. They obtained four knives for the purpose of carrying out the attack.
Before leaving to carry out the murder, the suspects reportedly photographed themselves in the manner that terrorists do before carrying out a terror attack.
The suspects allegedly arrived at Itamar's security fence at around 19:00. The indictment says that upon arriving at the Fogel family's home, the two entered the children's room, and covered Yoav's mouth, as he had been awakened by their entry. They told him not to be afraid, then took him to a nearby room and slashed his throat and stabbed him in the chest.
Hakim then allegedly strangled four-year-old Elad with Amjad stabbing him twice in the chest. According to the indictment, the two then entered the parent's room and turned on the light. Ehud was repeatedly stabbed in the neck. Ruth was also stabbed repeatedly, but was shot when the suspects saw that she had not been killed.
The suspects then left the house, but returned shortly afterwards to retrieve their weapons. Amjad then reportedly heard the cries of baby Hadas, which he feared would wake the neighbors. He reportedly proceeded by stabbing Hadas once in the head.
The suspects then fled Itamar, burned their clothing and hid their weapons with a family member.
According to a senior Shin Bet official involved in the investigation, despite the suspects' young age, Hakim and Amjad "described what they did with self-control and did not express regret over their actions at any stage of the investigation."
