VIDEO / Israeli Knesset member throws cup of water on colleague at height of heated argument
Argument erupts between Yisrael Beiteinu and Labor MKs following debate on the potential dismissal of an Israeli-Arab school principal who took students to a human rights march held in Tel Aviv.
By Jonathan Lis and Talila Nesher Tags: KnessetMK Anastassia Michaeli (Yisrael Beiteinu) poured a cup of water on her colleague MK Raleb Majadele (Labor) during an argument at a heated Knesset Education Committee debate on Monday morning.
The argument erupted after MK Danny Danon (Likud) called for the dismissal of the principal of a school in the Negev town of Arara, who took students on a human rights march held in Tel Aviv last month. The Knesset discussion was held following a Haaretz report that the Education Ministry reprimanded the Israeli-Arab high school.

"You are marching against the state," Michaeli shouted at Majadele, who answered back, "Shut up." He then added, "She won't shut me up. This is not Yisrael Beiteinu. Fascism will not be allowed to take over the house." Michaeli replied, "It is disrespectful to the status of women in the Knesset. We will discuss the matter in the Ethics Committee."
At a certain point in the argument, as it appeared that Michaeli was about to leave the room to calm down, she poured a cup of water and threw the contents at Majadele. Following that, she left the room in fury.
Majadele turned to Committee Chairperson, MK Alex Miller (Yisrael Beiteinu), and said, "That says it all. I'm sure you wouldn't condone such wild and fascist behavior. I'm telling you, I'm excited. This is predictable. We'll take this matter to the Ethics Committee and we'll call her to order."
This is not the first time Michaeli has been involved in a violent confrontation with an Arab Knesset member. During a stormy parliamentary debate about the Gaza flotilla last June, Michaeli forced her way over to MK Hanin Zuabi (Balad), who was trying to address the plenum from the Knesset podium, and attempted to forcefully remove Zuabi while blocking the microphone.
Michaeli was reprimanded for physically interrupting the speech of her colleague, while Zuabi was sanctioned for participating in the 2010 Turkish-sponsored flotilla to Gaza.

That man put himself in the way deliberately. It is completely unacceptable for him to create a situation by placing himself in the way of flying water. He should be reprimanded for the irresponsible positioning of his body in the way of an innocently tossed cup of cold mineral water.
and reasonable
Aggression from the top down, a sign of disintegration
if magale is not happy let him protest in egypt and/or syria
He will have plenty of enemies from day 1. Israeli politics might not work properly because of the coalition system but it sure as hell makes it much more interesting no gentlemanly attitude's in Israel that you get in US & Europe. Here we got MKs throwing water at each other, Zouabi assaulting Knesset guards after she had to be forcibly removed from the podium after he speaking time ran out and she refused to step down. Don't you just think Israel is great.
The MK's throwing water at a fellow MK is disgraceful. Irrespective of the issue involved.
Obviously this "lady" has a problem with self-control, she surely does not add to tolerance nor does she set a positive example for citizens, just sack her and check if her violence ends in the Knesset.
then something has gone horribly wrong in that society. Anyone taking up the human rights cause in Israel seems to quickly become an enemy of the state, yet you claim to the world that you're the "only true democracy" in the Middle East!
principal should make sure students are in the classroom during the school day not at marches or protests......:-)
Funny. At least Israel is a democracy.
when the far right are questioned about their viewpoint they can only react with violence and then run away. And Bietenau Yisrael is part of an Israeli government. Who would have thought even a decade ago it would come to this. Ben Gurion and Golda Meir must be spinning in their graves.
is this amazonian thug allowed to get physical with other knesset members ?
I don't care whether they are MK's or not, no amount of votes gives you the right to assault other citizens and act like a thug on national television, and non too surprising, look which party this "woman" hails from...
Anastasia Michaeli is out of control. She is a disgrace.
she simply ran out of tilt... Such childish behaviour.
and has done this type of thing before, "not elegant" is a bit of an understatement.
Yes, probably helped by the chilled drinking water :)
