Two Jewish youths charged with shooting at Arabs during Safed clashes
Border Police officer allegedly handed his M-16 to a civilian friend, as some 30 Jewish youths demonstrated violently near Arab students' apartments.

Nobody was hurt, but police arrested three suspects in the assault. The attack was seen as a reflection of the rising tension over the growth in the Arab population in Safed, mostly students at Safed College who are residing in the city.
Civilian Safed resident 20-year-old civilian Raziel Rubenstein, and 20-year-old Border Police officer Abraham Elmakis, have now been charged with opening fire during the incident.
According to the indictment, Rubenstein and Elmakis were strolling through the city when they came upon three local girls. Elmakis was carrying his army-issued M-16 rifle at the time.
As the two groups met, an Arab driver sped past them. The girls told Elmakis and Rubeinstein that they were worried that the local Arabs had "taken over the city."
They continued on toward the city park, where they met up with an additional 30 youths. The group began to discuss what they termed "the rising problem of Arabs in Safed, who are harming the personal security of Jewish girls."
The group decided to head for the downtown pedestrian mall to demonstrate outside of the buildings where the local Arab students rented rooms. They reached their destination just after midnight.
The mass group of Jewish youths began shouting "death to Arabs", "stinking Muslims" and "a Jew has a soul and an Arab is a son-of-a-bitch" at the house. They began throwing bottles and stones at the student housing.
One of the bottles soared through an open window, shattering glass in an apartment where a number of students were sitting at the time. The students responded by hurling things from their house onto the road.
According to the indictment, Elmakis handed his rifle to Rubeinstein at this point. Rubeinstein allegedly cocked the weapon and fired a single shot. The group of Jewish youth ran from the scene and the Arab youth hid in the apartment.
About two weeks prior to this incident, chief Safed Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu and other prominent rabbis called not to rent or sell apartments to non-Jews.
The rabbis also held what they called an "emergency gathering" whose speakers said the college was enabling the influx because most of its students are Arabs.
Eliyahu called to keep Arab students out of Safed College some eight years ago, after a suicide attack on a bus at Meron junction, after an Arab student had reportedly been warned of the attack by one of the terrorists.
Eliyahu was indicted for incitement to racism for this and other statements he had made at that time. But the indictment was revoked about four years ago, following an agreement in which he promised to publish a clarification of his statements.

And not just in Israel, in America as well, they have been transformed into political brainwashing facilities, which is why there is such a dearth of capable scientists and engineers, to do some of the things that could be done just a few decades ago. Students do not go in to learn to think, they go in to be spoon-fed poison. This incident escalated, but there should be no doubt, that if the Students had a gun, they would have fired the first shot and felt no grief if they'd killed anybody. They would happily murder, just as their non-student relatives typically do.
ABC TV Australia, late last night I watched a program re origami, there was a segment showing children in an Israeli class room learning origami, some of the little girls were wearing the hijab so I presume it was a combined Jewish/Muslim classroom... a one state solution would work beautifully if children made the rules and not bigoted adults in religion and politics!

There must be a youtube video of the incident to even justify an arrest without a verified kill. Nobody will care when the charges are dropped and the protectord of Safed are honored as heroes.

Israel is in a huge state of denial. Haaretz seems to be more reporting more and more cases casual racism, racism inspired by and tolerated by people at the highest levels of Israeli society.

What I want to know is whether this Jewish youth were properly dressed. Where they wearing their brown shirts? And another question: has chief Safed Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu already published his book entitled המאבק שלי (my Struggle)?

Shot was fired in the air when things got out of hand. Jewish version is of course opposite. Including provocation from loud music in cars.
Are these 'terrorists' or not? Shooting at civilians, if you are Palestinian, gets you a 'terrorist' label. Does the same apply to Jews? Has the Border Policeman been fired? If not, why not?

These shocking stories coming out of Israel saddens my heart. Everyone must learn to live together in peace or all will suffer. It starts with responsible leadership.

One could easily set this story here in the US. Well, the cop taking part would be a bit much, but... What it would NOT elicit (if it happened here) would be round-robin letters of approval from Congress.
It the participants were reversed, and it was Arabs firing at a Jewish home - it would be all over the American media, and American Jewish organizations would be issuing hysterical condemnations. Lets see how much play this gets in the American media, and which organizations say what.
This statement is untrue. Sadly, with respect to the Middle East, this occurrence would not be considered newsworthy. There are plenty of incidents with violence instigated from both Jews and Arabs that is not reported in US media.

Substitute "Negro" for "Arab" and this story reads like the stories of lynchings in the American Sourth. Or substitute "Jew" for "Arab" and it sounds like an East European pogrom.
No doubt the border policeman will be forced to take full responsibility for his irresponsibility. What that will amount to we shall have to wait and see. However and as bad as this incident is, it’s the underlying culture that is the real problem for Israeli society. This blasé attitude with regards to the targeting of Israeli Arabs must be addressed; this incident is made all the more odious by the continual drip feeding of hatred by the likes of chief Safed Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, he and the others may claim to be men of God but the bile they spew has nothing to do with faith, it is base xenophobia. And as such they that should be standing along side these fools in the dock, charged with sponsoring and promoting racism. What do you think? I’m just curious.

I guess whoever said,"The more things change, the more they remain the same," certainly nailed it. Guess nobody really learns the lessons of history.

Sadly, those Arabs that were attacked, were probably not the ones doing mayhem. This is what makes enemies out of (what passes as mutual disagreement and let live) "friends." If these kids want to attack someone, go to where the mayhem is being done and quid pro quo
This places have been made hotbeds of radicalism and propaganda. These students may be unarmed and in this case outnumbered, but they are hardly what I would call friendly. They probably write essays about how your children should be killed in their beds.
