Civil servants are certainly not forbidden to engage in political activity in the US. They can not claim that their views are the views of the agency, school, department, etc for which they work but they may do many things including but not limited to writing op-ed pieces, contributing to political campaigns and volunteering. Get your facts straight before you form your agenda.
