Shas spiritual leader calls for special prayers against IDF draft

Maybe the Rabbi should instruct Eli Yishai to vote agaist the drafting of ultra-Orthodox young men.

If he is a Rabbi in the true sense of the word he should be shuttled off to some uninhabited Island somewher. Then he could be the leaders of the apes.

Deuteronomy 20:6-7 lists those who are exmpt from military service. Yeshiva students who study Torah (Talmud) do not appear among them. Moreover, according to Numbers 32:6, Moses chastises certain Israelite tribes in the following words: "Will your brothers go out and fight while you remain sitting here?" Therefore, the ultra-Ortho demand for military exemption is not only not mentioned in the Torah , but goes against the will of God.

This Rabbi forgot or ignores the meanong of "chosen." someone should remind him that we were chosen to set an example not for special privilege. since the Haredim enjoy the protection of the IDF, they should participate in some capacity, both the men and women.

I sincerely wish israelis would free themselves of the medieval practices of orthodox zealots and access to an open-minded, beautiful Judaism which is not doomed by Self-destructive imbecilic, self-appointed “spiritual” leaders but full of hope and has a future.

He would have been ashamed to say that: ultra-Orthodox people try by all means to get advantages from the jewish nation. Suppose that every Israeli in Israel is like them. The country would not last a month and a new shoa would happen, the final one. That's the proof that extremism (including the jewish one) is dangerous. G. save us from them ! Rabbi Ovadia Yosef seemingly keeps forgetting that he lives in a mostly secular, democratic State in the year 2012 - not in a shtetl of centuries past - and that his disciples enjoy the benefits which this state bestows upon them, making it obligatory and incumbent upon them to reciprocate by doing their civic duty as every other citizen of the State must do.

Israel exist only thanks to the Torah and the good people of Israel who fought many wars so that we can have a Jewish state and also thanks to all the mothers who send their children out to defend our country. Rabbi Yosef Ovadia forgot to mention this. Lets be a united Jewish state, not a divided Jewish state as Rabbi Yosef Ovadia is creating.
