Report: Palestinian olive trees in West Bank uprooted in suspected 'price tag' attack
Writing found at scene indicates that incident may have been response to a Palestinian stone throwing attack last week that killed an Israeli man and his son.
By Haaretz Tags: West Bank Palestinians Hebron Israel settlersSeveral dozen Palestinian olive trees were uprooted on Wednesday night in the Mitzpe Eshtemoa area south of Hebron in a suspected "price tag" act by Israeli settlers, Army Radio reported.
According to the report, writing was found at the scene that said "Price tag Halhul", an apparent reference to the stone throwing attack in the Halhul area last week in which an Israeli man and his infant son were killed.

Civil Administration personnel have opened an investigation into the uprooting of the trees.
Earlier this week, Israel Police verified that a road accident last Friday that killed Asher Palmer and his son Yonatan occurred after a rock was thrown at their vehicle by a Palestinian.

can't believe what's the issue between settlers and olive
The destruction of trees is stricly forbidden in the koran, even in full war, by both parties. People who destroy olice trees are committing a war crime against G-d.
hes such a hypocrite!
The righteous gardners.
is bigger crime, and it is mean. Why is meanness part of the settlers behavior?
The Israelis pull up centuries old olive trees and vines all the time in Palestine.... apparently there is a roaring market for them in Israel. Two evil acts for the price of one.
If the Palestinians do something like this its called terrorism. When the Israelis do this its called price tag? Bullsh*t. The illegal settler squats are terrorists. Ship them to the Negev and let them wander in their own desert for the next 40 years.
It's hard to understand how - after an episode of stone throwing resulting in a road accident with deaths - justice could be made by uprooting dozens of olive trees. The person who allegedly threw the stone should be tracked and persecuted. You cannot collectively punish others for an individual crime. What do they or the trees have to do with the acts of an individual or a group? And such an act of vengeance - destroying the trees - is particularly despicable when we consider that it was perpetrated by people who are illegal occupiers of the land.
among the religiously certain crowd
Does anyone doubt that if this were a matter of Palestinians and trees owned by Jews, the perpetrators would be arrested instantly? Perhaps some day Israel will be civilized enough to understand the concept of equal justice without fear or favor.
Being the eve of the Rosh Hashannah festival, Wednesday night was a time when Jews are forbiddent to work. It is therefore highly unlikely that religious settlers had anything to do with either the destruction or the graffitti. Could this be yet another case of an Arab self-inflicted wrong being used as incitement?
You know, the issue wouldnt even be an issue if you took your settles back home to Israel. Dont you want them inside of israel instead of being illegal immigrants and occupants? Dont you want to save billions in taxpayer money which is wasted every years on the land thefts?
This statement sounds very self righteous. One may claim the exact opposite. Remember there are large number of people in Islamic world that believes 9/11 was an US machination to create an excuse to invade Muslim countries.
“If the Olive Trees knew the hands that planted them, Their Oil would become Tears.” ― Mahmoud Darwish
Some Palestinian did something they didn't like, so they strike out at some random Palestinian for "revenge". To that random Palestinian it is an unprovoked attack which is a provocation and an invitation to strike back in the same way. Israel and the IDF tolerate this behavior from the "settlers'. It is part of their game plan.
while i appreciate your sentiment, i would point out that retributive justice is just another of the wonderful aspects of the wonderfully religious and their hotline to their god. good thing that the rest of us have improved on god's lowly conception of morality
You fall into the same trap you warn against. Not all Israeli Jews act on revenge or have that frame of reference. Take heart in the fact that there are newspapers like Haaretz. Honestly, I wish there was something similar in the Palestinian side.
Three brass monkeys and three blind mice have been dispatched to investigate. No arrests expected.
they want peace.
What is Israel doing about these terrorists. Do they support or oppose terrorism?
I suppose that was a case of legitimate struggle for freedom, and he should be given a medal, right?
what, honored by a new suare n Ramllah ? Holy Pal Olive Trees über alles
Provoking an accident that claims lives as a consequence is inacceptable. All religions consider life as sacred, although extremists from all religions betray their own precepts far too often. But the "price tag" policy of the settlers is also inacceptable, in that it is not usually inflicted on Palestinians in retribution of something Palestinians, but other Jews have done : usually, it is to protest lawful forced evacuation of a settlement by the IDF - and the Palestinians are just collateral damage of an inside conflict between Jews. And when settlers attack Palestinian fields and orchards to steal their crops and / or destroy trees, or torch their mosques, what is it if not a pogrom as we ourselves had to suffer in the past ? That too is unacceptable, if only for the memory of our ancestors who similarly suffered. As has been wisely said : an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth... and the world will be peopled by toothless blind people.
Or did this happen inside of Israeli recognized borders? If it didnt, then you could accuse him for using his child as a human shield....
Most severely. Find the guys who threw stones and punish them. But not the entire Palestinian nation. Don't let 1 maniac in 1000 people rule the game!
