Police arrest seven in sweep of East Jerusalem neighborhood
Law enforcement operation in Issawiya follows a series of recent incidents in which Israeli vehicles were stoned in the neighborhood.
Following a recent period of unrest in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya, police launched a sweep of the neighborhood on Wednesday morning, arresting seven people – five for participation in disturbances and stone throwing and two for weapons possession.
As part of the effort to strengthen the enforcement of the law in Issawiya, police also checked numerous vehicles, issuing 170 tickets and taking 36 cars off the road.
On Saturday, three Israeli vehicles, including two ambulances, were stoned in Issawiya. And two days earlier, four young people - three Israelis from Givatayim and a female Australian student studying at Hebrew University in Jerusalem – made a wrong turn into the neighborhood and their vehicle was attacked by a gang of Palestinian stone throwers.
No one was injured in the stoning incidents but the vehicles all sustained damage.
