National Geographic ranks Tel Aviv among world's top beach cities
'Call it Miami Beach on the Med. Tel Aviv is the Dionysian counterpart to religious Jerusalem.'
By Zafrir Rinat Tags: Israel news Tel AvivThey may be hot, crowded and swarming with jellyfish, but Tel Aviv beaches are apparently a world-class asset.
National Geographic yesterday published a list of the world's 10 best beach cities and rated Tel Aviv alongside Barcelona, Rio de Janeiro, Nice (on the French riviera) and Cape Town.

The prestigious magazine's article says: "Call it Miami Beach on the Med. Tel Aviv is the Dionysian counterpart to religious Jerusalem. In the 'bubble,' as it's known for its inhabitants' tendency to tune out regional skirmishes, some restaurants, discos, and clubs are open until dawn.
By day, the scene shifts to the city's promenade and eight miles (13 kilometers) of beach literally steps from town."

I swim almost every day, and haven't seen a jellyfish all summer long. The beaches are indeed beautiful. Free; clean white sand; shower facilitoes; change rooms; hunky lifeguards; and the marvellous Mediterranean. Way better than Miami.
Many parts of Tel Aviv look like slum, and that's the truth. They look like a 3rd world country. And I'm talking about main streets, not small alleys. Yes there are some nice places, but tourists roaming the area close to the beach - Allenby, King George etc., are bound to be very disappointed...
Does anyone know their numbers? *)*
ALL THE COAST OF ISRAEL, INCLUDING EILAT ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD. NOTHING IN ISRAEL IS BAD.
I love Israel but no way! the beaches in Israel are not even close to those in the Caribbean for example. If Nat geo is talking about infrastructure, well, I dont really know, but the beaches it self, are not inside the best of the world.
I endorse National Geographic's rating!
she obviously has so much to carry!
Enough said.
I was in Beirut last summer and nope. The city and its beaches can't compete with TA. 1. Beirut doesn't have sand beaches they got rocky ones 2. The only ones worth visiting are private with an entry fee of about 25 euros (the public ones are filthy) 3. The nightlife in Beirut is a far cry from TA.
once there is peace between Israel and Palestine, or instead one democratic country where all can live, where now Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories are. I won't hold my breath though...
That the hippie tree hugging morons who sympathize with the Palestinians, thinking they're protesting for a "humanitarian" cause, are going to start screaming "Boycott National Geographic! They are Israel lovers!" this cracks me up, pretty soon the "peace protestors" are going to be screaming "boycot history books! they are saying the Israelis have a right to exist! Boycot History books!!!" hahahahaha ;)
NG is known as a semictic publication so I believe its inquiry is biased.
And why is this simple person allowed to comment in a stupid and primitive way ?
by the Jews" believers. Sure, like all the world's oil, banks, Hollywood, the United nations and the White House. If only it were true by even 1%.
hi how are u
On this one I agree. I have been to all the other beaches mentioned above (apart from Cape Town) and have always believed Tel Aviv was among the best. Its spreads the whole length of the city along with its great promenade. I still have not found anyhing to match the atmosphere of it anywhere. Love Tel Aviv.
great place to run.
As a Turkish citizen i really would like to see TA but i fear for my life in Israel. Rising racism and anger for Turkey, evethough murdering our citizens in international waters, makes me hesitate.
you have more chance of getting robbed and killed in Istanbul than on a Tel-Aviv beach. Just goes to show how backwards your country is in information. The terrorist on the flottila were not murdered, the were rightly killed in self-defence attempting to murder Israeli forces. Just thought I'll inform you on the facts.
Any event of civilian murder in int' waters. There was some event where several terrorists were shot after they lynched a few soldiers, that couldn't be it could it? Regardless Israel is far more hospitable to Turks than Turks are to Israelis.
nobody will harm you or be hostile unless as long as do not harm anyone or express hostility first. remember your citizens in international waters were not peaceful and the ship carried hamas-friendly passengers.
Can I suggest you visit Tel Aviv and assure you will not have any issues because you are Turkish. Tel Avivians are very liberal fun loving people and you will have a great time.
There are no problems between Turkey and israel. If you decide to visit Tel Aviv you will be welcomed and enjoy every minute. Israelites should go back to Anatalia and Istambul. Everything should go normal. Israel and Turkey were allies and that should be the normal thing. Your president will understand that sooner or later.
You still call it self-defence? No boy, these are not the facts. The fact is if you raid into a ship in international waters without any permission it is piracy. And international laws give the right to defend themselves on board. Nothing can justify close range headshots. These are intentionally shot to kill. No "self-defence". This is MURDER. I've never been robbed in Istanbul for 30 years. But Israelis killed 9 ppl in minutes. They are not even ashamed of it.
hey jj ! you must be kidding ...how do do think of that a person could be murdered with rod or chairs or else...? your IDF soldiers' hands are already in blood. They know "how to kill innocent people very well". As a last sentence, we don't need you to inform us about your truths ...
Once i was sick in TA and my jew friends have made anything they can to cure me. Thanks them and thanks for their humanity
Buddy - go there. The problem with a highly politicised region is that the countries involved view each only through the prism of politics, which ends giving people wildly distorted and inaccurate views of each other. Politics is what the elite do to justify their existence; ordinary people are more or less the same where ever you go. In TA people are normal and chilled out and I don't think they care too much where people are from, they are too busy enjoying their high quality of life. That was my impression visiting it last week. For me it's one of the best cities I've ever seen. Go there and enjoy it - you will be fine.
As a sworn Turkophiliac, who has spent many fine days in that fine country, I extend you a warm invitation to a country which is hospitable and greets you in peace and frienship. See you on the beach.
They were attempting to breach a blockade, which makes it legal for them to be boarded, even in international waters. You know what justifies close-range head shots? Being stabbed and hit with metal poles.
Firstly how is it possible to "stab" someone with a metal pole? Secondly if you think being hit with a metal pole justifies close-range head-shots, then you are speaking like a savage barbarian. What kind of person proposes a lethal retalation to a non-lethal attack? Rubber bullets would probably have been a sane and proportional response.
as everybody saw on youtube (except turkish people who had this site blocked by their governmetn). The comando soldiers were hit (and lynched) by metal rodes and stabbed (with knives not by the rods obviously!!). a savage barbarian is a peace activist who attacks in group a single soldier using rods knives and slingshots. it they wanted the soldiers wanted to kill they would have opened fire immdeitaly and we wouldnt have seen those pictures of soldiers being lynched and thrown off the ship. and rubber bullets?? they came with paintball guns trying top use them first before they were in danger of death !!! wrongly thinking they are going to meet unarmed peace activists...
Israeli commandos had no business being on the ship, they INVADED the ship, therefore the passengers of the ship had every right to defend themselves!!!!!
I was hesitant too, but people in Israel were very friendly. I will definitely visit again.
NG forgot to mention the excellent Israeli wine
Jochai ..You must be joking !
oneof the best beaches in israel is in ashdod beautifol , clean, and a beautiful promenade. AS FOR ISRAELI WINE go wine tasting in the galil. good wine on par if not better than some french or italian wines
Try the products from the Noah winery. Also try the Barkan labels. Israeli wines are some of the world's best.
and no doubt the grapes having been grown under the shadow of artillery batteries on the slopes of illegally occupied territory gives some of the wines that added 'piquancy" no?
