Mission under way to save heroic Zionist murals from oblivion
The works, mostly found in kibbutzim and government buildings, celebrate the physical labor of Israel's pioneers.
A new project has been launched to save thousands of murals, mostly from the 1950s and 1960s, in public buildings and in many kibbutzim. Much of the artwork is at risk of being destroyed. Some of the murals have been covered by layers of paint or buried in rubble when buildings were demolished. Others are simply disintegrating in abandoned structures.
