A man in his 20s was killed on Tuesday evening in an explosion caused by a grenade thrown at his car in the city of Afula.

The man's wife was lightly wounded.

The blast occurred near the central post office branch in the city. Police suspect the attack was criminally-motivated.

The dead man was a resident of Afula known to police. Following the explosion, he was transported by rescue services to the hospital where he was declared dead.

Two weeks ago, a grenade was thrown towards the man's home.

Police have opened an investigation into Tuesday's incident.
