Racism should not occure anywhere. You cannot justify racism by showing to the fact that racism exsists somewhere else.And by the way: I am not an arab and have walked through Ramallah many times.

I go to Ramallah often. I even lived in a militant filled refugee camp while the IDF invaded and attacked Nablus. Now I"m in Tel Aviv. I have friends in Ramallah, you know many non-Arabs who live there...many Jews live there too. Isac, you wish that the situation was as black and white so you could justify the racism of our society. Yet, nearly every other society can easily point fingers at Israeli racism and chauvinism because it is such a dominant (and ignorant) feature of what Israel is. Don't believe what this guys says, it's very easy to disprove. Reality is what people like this deny - they feel empowered by their influence in narratives of the world, so they think reality is irrelevant.

Go and have a chat with them. Actually why don't you go yourself? Have you ever been there? I'm sure there are many courteous, respectful Arabs and Jews in Israel. And Arab restaurants that refuse patrons with Jewish names or they'd lose their Arab clientele. Racism is ugly but hardly "unbelievable".

Olah, do you live in Israel? Do you speak from experience? The Arab restaurants I know in my area are fine establishments catering to the entire population. Be specific!

You're completely missing the point. This article is not about the socio-economic status of Arabs, it's about racism. In particular, the racism practised at a specific eatery. It's right to call out racism wherever it exists. Also, the fact this one Arab family can afford to go out to a nice restaurant does not mean all Arab families are rich. That's a real stretch you're asking us to make there. There are poor and rich Arabs, poor and rich Jews, poor and rich "others" in Israel, I am sure.

During WW2 Britain interned all Germans on her territory,some of them Brit citizens or even refugees from Nazi Germany.Some of them got shipped to Australia.Shops with owners with ´German sounding names had been smashed. I don't think Mr.Otto Hesselmayer and his wife Brunhild would have obtained reservations at a fancy London restaurant then.

I am sure that there was racism in roman times too, but what does that have to do with 21st century standards? In new Zealand, that restaurant would be prosecuted if it was proved to have acted in a racist fashion, and that is the way it should be.

Why should they identify as Israeli, when Israel defines itself as a Jewish state? Why should they feel loyalty to a country that defines itself at their exclusion? Which is not to say there aren't loyal Israeli Arabs, but you can hardly demand or expect that of them. As a people, they lived on that land before the creation of Israel, and now, suddenly, they're supposed to either change their identity or move out?
