Livni mulls running as head of new party in Israeli elections, sources say

The Isiraeli dysfunctional political system is damaging to the concept of democracy. There are 120 Knesset seats up for grabs but the largest party currently has just 28 of them ( less than a quarter ) and in the current Knesset the 3 mainstream parties between them have just 68 out of 120 whilst the rest are in the hands of single issue parties and the more parties we have the thinner the vote is spread and the more single issue parties. The more seats controlled by single issue parties the bigger coalitions must be and the bigger the coalitions means more likely to start infigiting sooner and when they do that the coalition breaks up new and the taxpayer has to spend millions on new elections. With the entry of Yair Lapid who has built a single issue that revolves around himself & if Livni stands she will probably take seats from disgruntled Kadima voters we may actually find ourselves as early as the next election single issue parties hold more seats than the 3 mainstream. MKs are elected from a party list rather than directly through regions which allows politicians to stick around for decades which is why when they keep making comebacks and even the most unpopular people stay in the Knesset for years. What Israel needs is the British system where there are just 3 parties, all politicians are elected regionally, there is no coalition government because the party with the most seats runs the country alone although unlike in the British system it should be for a fixed term. This system might have worked in the early years of statehood when there were just a handful of parties and because they were state building then needed political cooperation which coalition government brought but Israel is now a mature country and needs a mature system because things are just getting worse with new parties being formed at every election the problem is though how to get them to change the system considering it would cost 90% of MKs their jobs

Britain has a coalitiion government, the PM and Deputy PM come from different parties, and many parties contest the general election, some of which are very much single-issue organisations.
