Leading Israeli rabbi blasts anti-abortion group Efrat for 'irresponsible' language

Abortion is not something that most women do so easily. Efrat promises young women who by mistake became pregnant, financial help in the beginning. But an unwanted pregnancy involves much more than diapers and a baby carriage etc. during the first year - remember the article in Haaretz about single women, mothers, who work as prostitutes in Tel Aviv, in order to give their child a good education and proper food? Efrat is not helping women for the 20 years one need to really bring up a child.

I, personally believe that no one should decide about having a baby or not but the mother. However, I'd advise you to agree to disagree as this issue will tear Israel apart as it has the United States

The very situation where religious leaders publicly express different opinions on the matter is fundamentally Jewish, in my opinion. Well done to Rabbi Lau for taking a nuanced approach, highlight the complexity of the issue and consider the circumstances (of the women, the family, etc) for abortion. Words can kill as well, they shouldn't be spoken lightly. If Efrat's message is that they can help families financially, it should be done in a positive manner, which doesn't insinuate - catholic-style - that there is a simple ethical way out of abortion.

For killing which is a euphemism for murder. What else can it be ? Even the most radical pro choicers have a cut off point.

Those opposed to abortion should study the Halachah.

"In this way we gain another child for the Jewish people." The state is more important then the individual. The individual may not want the child but for the good of the state it must happen. The Nazis used women as machines simply to produce blonde, blue-eyed Aryan children, can Jewish women please produce children to populate the state or at least carry on with an unwanted pregnancy. Do Jews like Dudu Saada realise what they conjure up when they talk like this?

Murder is unlawful killing. Abortion is taking a life. Making it legal does not make it moral.
