Israelis ring in Shavuot holiday with May showers
Despite unseasonable rain and thunderstorms, some 200,000 people took part in traditional holiday festivities at Israel's kibbutzim, while thousands visited the beaches of the Kinneret.
The Shavuot holiday was marked on Wednesday by unusual weather including rain, thunderstorms, lightning and even hail. But the tide is turning, with temperatures expected to rise 6 to 8 degrees Celsius on Friday to unseasonable levels. Sunday will be very hot and dry.
