Electric trains are used worldwide and nobody is dying of radiation sickness or glowing in the dark because the radiation levels are so tiny but in Israel the electric train project. If we don't electrify the railways then we cant move forward with the plan because unless we electrify the railways then its never going to be a viable method of public transport except for short haul trip. Nobody wants to go from Tel Aviv to Eilat on an overcrowded train ( its bad enough as it is ) thats going to take many hours to arrive when they can fly for a reasonable price in relative comfort in just 1 hour. If we want ti stay with diesel then we are not going to develop the country and if we don't develop the country people will continue cramming into the coast and centre and driving up property prices.

The exposure of radiation from the rail system is lower than the exposure from a cell phone. This is obviously a political ploy.

The last time I commented on the almost nil risk of cellphone radiation danger, I was verbally attacked by well meaning but scientifically ignorant people. The radiation risk in electrified trains are even less. Why doesn't the author of this article ask physicists or medical radiologists about dangers and risks of radiation and what kind of radiation will affect ones health. In the meantime I would advise anyone afraid of electric 50 hertz power lines to wear their Voodoo bracelet for protection.
