Under Israeli law, Family Court has sole right to rule on organ donations by minors and mentally incompetent, but bone marrow transplants are not regularized and thus do not require its approval.

Because of recent difficulties in getting a mentally ill man to agree to a life-saving bone marrow transplant for his brother, a panel has been established to standardize such transplants from people unable to consent to the procedure.
