Interior Ministry Director-General probed over alleged fraud scheme
Lod police question Gabi Maimon in relation to scheme in which state apartments designated for evacuated Gush Katif residents were given away in return for favors.
Interior Ministry Director-General Gabi Maimon was brought in for questioning Monday for alleged involvement in a fraud scheme in which apartments designated for residents who had been evacuated from their homes in Gush Katif were in fact handed out in return for favors.
Associated of Maimon said it was still unclear whether he would be arrested for further questioning or released with limited conditions.
The police unit for national economic crimes in Lod has probed several suspects allegedly involved in the scheme.
In August the police recommended to charge several public officials with fraud, the most senior official being former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
