IDF reservists demanding equality in national service are inciting against Israel's minorities

Instead of punishing people who do not participate in the national effort, give incentives to those who do, say NIS 20,000 for each year of service in the army or any other national service.

Any step carries potential problems.... that is not a reason to stay where you are.

G-D gave the land of Israel to the Jews. He expects all the Jews who live in Israel to defend it. Its an obligation for all able bodied Jews to serve in the IDF. The 60,000 Torah students are not exceptional students.It was ment only for the very few brightest to devote their life to study the Torah.The rest will contribute nothing to our religion in their lifetime.They must serve and work like all other citizens.

The simplest solution? End the draft! Better to have an Army of those who want to serve then those who don't. So in a few years the only people still serving will be true Zionist.....

I never seen so many excuses crammed I such a short essay to "protect" a Israeli section of society from serving. Everything is possible!. We managed to protect Israel from its creation, we can find ways to push these draft dodgers to defend her.

I think the Ultra Orthodox and the Arab youth can do a fine job in Civilian Service. Many of the Ultra Orthodox can ensure that Army kitchens are Kosher, and conduct prayer services and counseling. Also I think many of these youths can help plant trees, pick up trash in Mea Shearim and other neighborhoods, and also help work on irrigation projects. Civilian service will give help these youths pick up valuable skills and society will also benefit from their participation.

In Germany we had good experience with the civilian service, which was compulsery for conscience war resistors. The young men - not all, but most of them - served in hospitals, homes for handycapped people, ecological projects and on many other projects with good success. They were helping hands for the professional people in these fields. when the civilian service ended last year, because the military draft also ended, they left a large gap. For many of the youg men it was an important experience and they stayed after the civilian service in social professions. The german Zivildienst was a success. Perhaps Israeli authorities or politicians should contact the former Bundesamt für den Zivildienst, now Bundesamt für Familie und zivilgesellschaftliche Aufgaben in Cologne. I remember a visit of a group of young orthodox women in Germany, who did something like a civilian service in the eighties. Doesn't this service exist any longer?

Unity and vision is required in the State of Israel. The camp must not split into various groups who at best will not talk with each other, and at worst who are at each other's throats. There is a peaceful way forward on this issue. Prayers for the State of Israel.

The people of majority has have patience anymore, they work, pay taxes and serve, in short they GIVE, while others, like the haredim are only taking! And btw, let me ask you this, WHY must the IDF segregate his females? Cos of the haredim? Why? Everybody entering the Zahal has to adopt to it?! So, why the haredim should get treated better again, why the IDF has to adopt to the will of them? It would be just unfair again! And here we reach the important point, the majority doesn't believe any longer that the minorities will wake up and the majority is simply not ready to continue accepting the unfairness they face in Israel today.
