An old leather belt with Hebrew inscriptions from Mandatory Palestine on its buckle is mystifying history buffs, who are trying to find out who it belonged to and what the engravings stand for.

"Lopata" means "shovel" in Czech and Slovak. With a diacritic on the 'L' it also means shovel in Polish. So, the owner's origins likely come from Central Europe. Perhaps there are families in Israel named יעה who might be relatives?
