Scandals of abuse pre-date this Pope's tenure by many years. The fundamental structure of the Catholic church, i.e. unmarried priests, monks and nuns, inevitably leads to the possibilities of such abuse. Also, its dogmatism and rigid hierarchy. One of the reasons that anti-semitism is so prevalent amongst Catholics; and less so amongst the more schismatic Protestants ( a bit like us argumentative Jews, come to think of it....)

Bydan, If you aren't catholic, spend your time criticising your own bussiness. isn't there any homophobia in judaism (ultra orthodox)? Nobody shouts when a child is abused by teachers. Regarding the child abuse, the only mistake made by Catholicism was to accept anyone. The Pope is not God, he is a Human Being. It si easy to critizise.
