A Border Police volunteer shot dead on Saturday morning a Palestinian suspected of illegally entering Israel. Border Police said in a statement the volunteer opened fire when the suspect tried to stab him.

A Border Police force was conducting a sweep of the Petah Tikva cemetery for Palestinians illegally staying in Israel when the volunteer fired his weapon.

The Magen David Adom rescue service arrived on scene and pronounced the Palestinian dead. Authorities believe the man who was in his 20's crossed into Israel from Nablus.

A month ago security forces fired at two Palestinians who approached the border fence along northern Gaza. One was killed in the incident and a second Palestinian was wounded and arrested. Neither was armed according to an investigation by the Israeli military.

In 2010, a police officer shot to death a handcuffed Palestinian car thief from East Jerusalem. The thief's hands were bound as he lay face down on a Tel Aviv street. The officer shot him in the back and killed him.
