Israeli kibbutz goes from being pork paradise to ultra-Orthodox retreat
Kibbutz Mizra, in the Jezreel Valley near Afula, sold its meat factory four years ago, after selling pork products since the 1950s.
For years, Kibbutz Mizra has been a symbol for what some pious Jews call “the heretical nonreligious.” But this summer a group of ultra-Orthodox Jews will be vacationing there. For four days the kibbutz pool will provide separate swimming hours for men and women.
