Clashes come after IAF jets bomb smuggling tunnels in southern part of the coastal strip earlier in the week.

Palestinians opened fire at an IDF patrol Thursday morning, several hours after Gaza militants launched a mortar shell into the western Negev.

Army Radio reported that the mortar shell exploded in an open field in the Negev's Eshkol region.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

On Monday, Israel Air Force aircraft struck three arms smuggling tunnels in the southern Gaza Strip, after Palestinian militants had fired two Qassam rockets into the western Negev on the previous day.

In a statement, the army said the air strike was in response to the rocket attack.

"The IDF holds the Hamas terrorist organization responsible for maintaining the calm in the communities of southern Israel and will respond to any attempt to disrupt this calm," the army said.

Late Saturday, Israel Defense Forces spotted two launches of rockets from Gaza toward Israel night, prompting air-raid sirens to sound in Sderot. The rockets were not found and no injuries or damage were reported

When the Palestinians fire across the border they generally do so indiscriminately. When Ite IDF fires across the border they are generally firing upon someone approaching the border for the purpose of firing across the border. If there were no Palestinian efforts to fire upon Israel, there would be no responses on the part of the Israelis.

If the IDF has the right to shoot across the borders at Palestinians, why don't the Palestinians have the right to shoot across the border at the IDF?
