Coalition Chairman MK Gideon Sa'ar and MK Michael Eitan met on Thursday morning with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in an attempt to find common ground between Sharon and the Likud rebels and prevent a split in the party.

The meeting came before a Knesset vote on ministerial nominations set to be held on Monday.

Sa'ar and Eitan said after the meeting they received the impression that the two sides are seeking a solution that will eliminate the rift within the party.

They said there is no desire to split the party or to bring down the government.

Sa'ar and Eitan refused to reveal details regarding the meeting so as not to inadvertently foil efforts to secure a solution.

The two MKs said they intend to meet with all the Likud rebels by Sunday.
