Does anyone have any news about this story ? I'm sure people are still interested so if you can let me know I would be very pleased...thanks
Whoever is responsible for her insurance please have a heart to show kindness and compassion. It was not her liking to have cancer-- isn't this is the reasons why we have insurance to certain the uncertainty. To help rebuild lives again. To promote equality by burden sharing. To help people who are in need. And to protect lives.
Is it real? We'll become proud of military success of Aretz but go under the ground because of immorality of it's acts. This is not acceptable !!!
Rather than the Haaretz treatement of any issue concerning Israel.
I read about poverty among Jews as well as Arabs, lack of opportunities for immigrants, lack of support for holocaust survivors ... how can someone be working or living legally in Israel and not have medical insurance coverage? I guess this is another area in which Israel wants to be like the U.S. Israel's businesses are innovative, but it seems the social safety net is eroding. I wish Israel would offer social, not just military, security to it's people. Isn't this part of being the homeland of the Jewish people?
Please tell us the number of a bank account to deposit money for this poor girl. As jewish people we must help her, its our duty to help her. She will be ok with our help. baruj hashem
How can I help out?
I feel so ashamed to be Jewish when I read this. I begin to understand why Jews are so hated. A little compassion goes a long way. You invited her in, and now she is sick get rid of her. Could someone please tell me why I should continue to support Israel? The next time I make a donation it will be to the Palestinians this makes me sick to read.
This is a sad story. I hope some merciful souls with the funds could help her.
if you're interested in helping, you should definitely definitely send an email to mail@phr.org.il - that's physicians for human rights, and they know josephine's case.
"Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor Will also cry himself and not be heard" Proverbs 21:13
I know about the Israeli treatment of many, many holocaust survivors: indeed sickening, sad and outrageous as so many other aspects of Israeli society.but just because some other countries are doing similar things to some migrant workers, it`s still not human.
Rabbo, I can't fathom the relevance of your response to the present situation. Ofcourse in both cases care should be given to the best of our ability.
Another prime example of the unloving & uncaring egotistical Israel that has become the norm recently...or was it always that way ? I lived there for 9 years and as a Christian I just couldn't stand the political and religious unfairness in certain instances...How can a country with such a closed heart ever have peace ?
I would appreciate it if ANYONE can let us know how we might help THIS person RIGHT NOW. To save a person is to save a universe. PLEASE HA'ARETZ - post a haaretz PO box to send contributions and thank you for letting us hear this story.
First time I see Haaretz doing the right thing and going ahead with this publication. If she doesn't have money for treatment sending her back amounts to the death sentence.
anyone put this on youtube? thanks
That is all about, compassion. Love your neighbour as you love yourself, it is written in the Torah.
Ever read any books besides the ones that lie to you? Israel is reborn again just as the Torah describes. Pity your 'handlers' don't let you read facts, not fiction. There was and is ISRAEL ther never was a Palestine. We are home, YOU MOVE, JERK.
You jews, this land is not yours, go back all to where you come from..
Seems to me that you are making a judgment without checking the facts - and you are too far away to really know what you are talking about.
most employers only care for their foriegn workers while they are still useful to their company and finally dump them when things go wrong.
Hank you are wrong as also are so many who responded to this article. Only wonder why no one blames the Philippine Government for not footing the healtcare bill for it?s citizen to receive the proper care. Yes the Israeli policy toward the weak and sick is filthy and obviously your are ignorant as are most those who are so compassionate about the subject. Fact is that in Israel the welfare system is lacking and most of the Israeli elderly including holocaust survivors are suffering greatly if from lack of basic food, proper medication and proper health care. The State administer them cheap substitute medication which do not heal properly. The Elderly are badly abused in Government owned hospitals like Sourasky Medical Center, kicked out of hospital even before recovery and the story is to long for this chat.
Ester what about the elderly Israelis who build this country and who suffer greatly at the hand of Israel formal policy are they lesser humans in your eyes?

#5 you are wrong - my mother was refused medical insurance in the US because she had cancer in the past and other illnesses due to Israeli medical malpractice. No uproar on this subject but to the contrary Haaretz corresponded Rut Sinai refused to even publish the plight of my mother which was poisoned by her family doctor, or the cruelty she is treated within Israel by the so called ?manpower offices? like Yad el Yad, Ezer Mi Zion or the cruelty of the Tel Aviv Welfare department under Mrs. Geula Avital. So before all of you are blaming the Social Security for mistreatment of foreign worker who are in this country less than 4 years, better support my dying mother who helped build Sde Boker and gave her life to the State of Israel. It is obvious that Haaretz publishes issues related to foreign workers out of monetary interests and not social justice as the reports in general are very biased and ignore the plight of thousand of elderly in Israel.
Sounds like a similar policy to refusing urgent treatment for a double-amputee Pal...(see shabbat Ha'aretz).
As A Breast cancer survivor I am shocked at this immoral act. Her insurance company should not only be fined but forced to pay for her entire treatment and living expenses while undergoing treatment! The Cancer cannot wait to be cured or it will spread, if she returns to the Phippipeans it is a death sentence, where is the humanity and compassion in this country? We allowed a Jewish young man from Austrilia to claim citizenship for his cancer treatment here, so how can this woman be turned away from Israel because her insurance company when she needs it the most throws her to the wolves? She needs to contact the Israeli cancer society for help, they have advocates that maybe ablr to do something! My prayers are with her for a successful recovery!
The same policy is all over the Western World ? so in this case Israel is no exception. As cruel as it sounds the woman came to work. Her permit to stay in Israel if working is not more that 56 months. The state is liable for all illnesses contracted due and during her work. The state is not responsible for illnesses that she had before arriving in Israel. As sad as it sounds on the face of it cancer is not a work related illnesses it is genetically induced and as such Israel has no responsibility. Haaretz ignores the plight of the Israeli elderly or those who are victims of Israeli malpractice like my mother who was poisoned by her family doctor administering the wrong medicine for years but is fascinated with the plight of foreign workers. Wonder which other national newspaper can be so hypocritical like Haaretz hatred propagation
Let's see if the religious give a "peep". Interesting how the MOST OFTEN repeated mitzvah in the entire Torah is "be kind to the STRANGER" for you were once strangers in a foreign land....It is repeated 36 times, more than any other mitzvah....this act of deporting someone who is INSURED is an atrocity and i pray for both the woman, and that the ignorance and cold-heartedness of this Israeli "health" system be more kind and enlightened. I personally have just returned from travelling overseas and paid for travel insurance which apparently covers theft of personal belongings...when I was robbed in Thailand, the insurance is now claiming they only cover "felonious assaults" meaning being robbed at gunpoint..but not break-ins to hotel rooms...these insurance companies are scandalous and will only respond to LAWSUITS. This woman should have an immigration attorney threaten the heck out of this insurannce company...unfortunately that is sometimes the ONLY way to get things done even in USA
Most filthy and disgusting policy of the insurance companies. A real shame to humanity. When the people most need it , they suddenly find out that they're not covered. True exploitation of foreign workers , the moment they're fit they can take care of the older and invalid people. The moment they themselves need some more serious medical care than just for an ordinary flue , they're dropped like a hot patato and sent back home. Sent without any human feeling to a most certain death in their homeland. One would think that specifically in a nation of which many elderly have gone through the holocaust and which reminds us every year about those atrocities , there should be more understanding and feeling for human misery. Apparently some Israeli's got a very one-track mind and have a short and selective memory for human suffering as long as it doesn't concern themselves.
Such a greedy insurance policy should be punishable by fines. completely unacceptable
i think the whole affair is disgusting. If an Israeli was refused treatment Overseas, can u just imagine the uproar. What's with these Insurance Companies, just to take your money and then when u need them, they just throw u out Shame on them and Israel for such treatment.
This smells. Israel has taken refugees from darfur etc Here is one who came to work in Israel in good faith. I think Israel owns her the responsibilty of giving her adequate medical treatment.
typical israeli bureaucracy- let us support neo-nazis rather than innocent foreign workers who a)contribute more to israel socially and economically, and b)are constantly working in order to make ends meet at home. display SOME emotion and fix the problem!
israel is just taking advantage of the migrant workers.
This company was paid to cover her, knowing that if she needed the treatment they could terminate the coverage. She should demand that money back and be given it.
