Three people died during clashes with security forces in Egypt as protesters prepared to rally against the police and the country's military rulers in several provinces following a deadly football riot, the Health Ministry said Friday.

Protesters joined angry football fans following the death of 74 people - according to latest figures provided by the security sources - at a football match in the northern city of Port Said on Wednesday.

One person was killed in Cairo and two others in Suez City, while a further 1,690 were injured, the ministry said.

The website of the semi-official newspaper Al-Ahram reported that at least 15 people were injured later Friday in fresh clashes between security forces and protesters in Suez.

Police fired tear gas to prevent the protesters from approaching the city's security directorate and governorate buildings, according to the report.

Several fires reportedly broke out near the two buildings.

Various protests were planned for Friday in Cairo, where participants were expected to call on the country's ruling military council to hold early presidential elections.

The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces has said presidential elections will be held by mid-June.

But several political groups remain suspicious and accuse the country's military council of being responsible for Wednesday's riot, allegedly to use it as an excuse to prolong their stay in power.

On Thursday, angry crowds marched to the Ministry of Interior, near Cairo's central Tahrir square, after blaming police for failing to prevent the Port Said tragedy.

Security forces used teargas to disperse the demonstrators who were throwing stones at the police.

In other provinces, protesters attacked the headquarters of the security forces with stones and petrol bombs.
