Western-backed coalition walks out of parliament after Hezbollah-run cabinet wins vote of confidence.

Lebanon's new government won the votes of 68 lawmakers in the 128-seat parliament.
Parliamentarians loyal to former prime minister Saad Hariri of the Western-backed coalition walked out of the chamber as the voting began.

The three-day deliberations in parliament saw heated exchanges between the Hezbollah-led lawmakers and allies of Hariri, whose government was toppled by the group and its allies in January over a dispute regarding the United Nations tribunal into the 2005 killing of his father, former premier Rafik Hariri.
Hariri was killed on February 14, 2005 in a massive bomb blast in a seaside area of Beirut.
Hariri's allies during their speeches in parliament said the new cabinet was a result of a "coup against democracy."
Shortly before his 30-member cabinet was granted a vote of confidence Mikati promised that his government "confirms it will continue the path of the tribunal ... and continue to cooperate in this regard as per the UN Security Council Resolution which set up the tribunal to see justice served."
Hezbollah has blasted the UN tribunal as being "a U.S.-Israeli plot which is targeting Hezbollah and Syria."
On June 30, the UN court, set up in the Hague in 2009 to probe suspects in the Hariri case, issued warrants against four members of the Lebanese Shiite group, prompting Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah to pledge that the group will not hand over any of the suspects.

Good news! Now it is better for israel to keep silent.
Because Isreal could snap their fingers, and bye bye to lebenon. Meanwhile Lebenon and Hez deperately want to destroy Isreal and kill everyone inside of it. But Isreal uses disproportionate force??? How ironic.
I always thought that Hezbollah was a Palestinian terrorist organisation, but now it seems that it is the government of Lebanon, so the Palestinians have their own country (1). I also thought the population of Jordan was 80% Palestinian, so they have their own country (2). Now they are pushing for a country on the West Bank (3). How many countries do they need? Perhaps they could have an extra small one in Gaza (4)!!!
Israel is trying to display Hezbollah as a super powerful organization just to legalize their future chance of invading Lebanon .
There are more than six days between March 14 and March 8. The two 'movements' are bitterly divided over how to respond to the Lebanon Special Tribunal. The vote of confidence in Prime Minister Najib Mikati's cabinet is much more an effort to maintain balance than to affirm Hisbollah. p.s. Four Israeli warplanes invaded Lebanese airspace yesterday.
stop invading, occupying, annexing, causing humanitarian crisis, stop refusing peace and law and resolutions!
as a lebanese american ,I think the the whole western countries and united nation members should cease dealing with the lebanese goverment ,because this is a goverment ,was made by the power of a terrorist group guns, and insist on surrendering the the killers of the prime minister harriri,,,it is time for lebanon and israel to sign a peace treaty
There is a nuance here. As far as I know, this government is backed by the Hezbollah, and not run by it.
Good. You are taking more and more responsibility for the country. I do not care how many missiles you have aimed at Israel as long as you do not fire them. Israel will keep the peace as long as you will.
Let them go to hell !
Lebanon +Arabs summer uprising and so own -there coming to be burden on the western county 'with our blood and money -'what a waste?? ++no use with them What so ever ;thy are violent society ;i think it is about time that the western country Disassociate with them 'thy are becoming more and extremist "" look around you ' there this is there own problems && should be solve between them self P>s we running out of money what ever you do with them .in the end thy will stub you in the BACK +perhaps we should all so have A Separate U N TOO -very sad all those Killing between them self
No more hiding behind innocent women and children. The more Hezbolla is legitimized, the more legitimate the response to their aggression. The next war that they start will be their final undoing.
How about we talk to Hezbollah instead fear mongering . Maybe Israel need to address the problem instead of brushing it under the rug. And the US need to stop playing favorites and stop selling bombs to a country that keeps attacking it's neighbors
You do not undderstand, or choose not to understand, that Hezbollah is opposed to our very existence; that Hezbollah blew up the Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires, killing many people. You either live in the US or are a haredi (ultra-Orthodox) from the tone and content of yur letters. You are no friend of Israel.
You ignoramous. So Israel keeps attacking it's neighbors. What do you call crossing a border kidnapping and killing three soldiers and then firing rockets into civilian aereas as a diversion. I call it an attack and this is what Herzbollah did in 2006. Even Nasrallah admited that had he known how Israel would respond he would not of ordered the border crossing. Moshe the next time I promise you that Israel will adress the problem instead of sweeping it under the rug. Just dont come here whining about disproportionate force when the infrastrucure of Lebanon is totally destroyed.
How are you soooooo Naive and ignore historical precedents? What happened when the US reached out to Iran? Fatah and Hamas can't even reconcile. Hezbollah's Idealogical views will only change internally, no one from the outside will get them to change.
And deal and talk with them to get to them to be less extreme
How about Chamberlain who talked with Nazi to get them to be less extreme? How about Stalin who signed peace treaty with Hitler? Russia had paid for this "peace" with 27 millions lives.
How about you mentioning your fantastic idea to Nasrallah the next time you speak to him in the sewer under the Iranian embassy.
Lebanon is the world's ultimate example of democracy. They have many disparate factions and yet they manage to form governments and to mostly get along and move forward. This is a miracle even if it is not done well. Israel has a number of parties, but, since 90% of Israelis are right wing, there is effectively only one party. The left can never win and the "center" is made up of Likudniks. America has only two serious parties that are more alike than not. Lebanon has at least four major factions making up the political scene. One thing that every Lebanese person knows, no matter how they feel about Hizbollah, Hizbollah did end the Israeli occupation. Hizbollah gave the Lebanese nation back to the Lebanese people. This is no small thing.
Herzbollah gave the Lebanese nation back to the Iranian and Syrian Goverments. The worlds ultimate democracy votes out the politicians who it doesnt like by the use of a car bomb and sends its goons into the streets to kill innocent civilians when the vote does not go its way. Do you really believe the outright lies and misinformation that you post here. Do you really think that we are that stupid that we believe any of the propaganda that you dredge up. Are you that naive orf just ignorant.
Yes, Arab democracy at work. Assasinate the previous beloved leader, have a UN tribunal that Indicts you, and then get elected to lead the country.
This is a classic case of Good Vs. Evil In reality, only the ignorant and blind would think Hezbollah and its allies are the evil ones.
Good to know that murdering your opposition is really an act of kindness.
"Walid Jumblatt, the Druse politician whose votes proved crucial in electing Mr. Miqati, said Mr. Hariri had failed 'to see the realities on the ground'." - NYTimes// The fall of Lebanon into the hands of Hizballah was not foreordained at all. Saad Hariri is the chief Sunni politician in Lebanon, in a country where chiefs are followed by the masses of their sect. So how did he lose the prime-ministership, and how did the US lose while the Syria-Iran axis won? As Walid Jumblatt was saying, there is a reality on the ground. That reality is that Hizballah is a strong militia, being pushed to the corner by the UN investigation of Papa Hariri's assassination and determined to prevent a trial where it might be found guilty. One option for Hizballah was to try and take over Lebanon by force, which would have sparked a new civil war. The Druze had nothing to gain from such a civil war. They opted to prevent it. Indeed, Saad Hariri himself understood the situation and at some point agreed to pull Lebanon out of the international court (which might have put an end to it). And then came the US on a white horse, bearing the gift of "justice for all". Obama and Hillary advised Hariri to stick with "justice". (In fact, they astonishingly continued with that line even AFTER the Hariri government fell.) Hariri complied, so the Druze had to bring him down in order to prevent the catastrophe that the US was engineeing. The rest is history. Basic lesson for all doctors and diplomats: If the cure has side effects that are worse than the disease, don't use it. So trivial for doctors, so hard for lawyers who specialize in justice. The truly sad thing is that the consequences were so obvious from the start.
You ppl teach the world democracy and when some ppl use it but when it is not in yr favour, u call it foul and name those democratic ppl that voted democratically terrorists? Am sorry but you are sick!
Dear Zionist. Just like in the Zionist country Israel which sponsors Settler TERROR, this new government has been elected. Before you do your usual "sky is faling" bidding, and just like we gave the PUPET Hariri 6 years to govern where he and his Daddy took the country backwards, let us give this government a couple of years to see if they are any better. You never know until you try... Just like your Settler TERROR sponsoring governemnt today.
Some of you seem to have no idea what democracy really means; Hitler was democratically elected. Was Nazi Germany a democracy? NO! Same with Hamas in Gaza - are you ignorant enough to claim that Gaza is a democracy? You would have to be a moron. It takes more than an election to create democracy. And most importantly, democracy requires the absence of terrorist thugs who murder for votes and power.
And that is that only very few nations consider Hezbollah (4, to be exact) to be a terrorist organisation. Also, I am quite sure that there is no EU law which prevents contact with 'terrorists' - we're not as dogmatic as the US. Britain happily talked to the IRA and Sinn Feinn, and EU countries have frequently engaged in communication with Hamas (even if not very publicly), despite that they are classified as a terrorist organisation in Europe.
Hezbollah is dead long live the government and people of Lebanon. Any trouble and there is no longer any fudging of responsibility. Congratulations our neighbours on ironing out any split and confusion in decision making
Exactly correct! Zionists gripe about any money going to anyone but themselves and their cronies! The "terrorist" label is flung in every direction, but it fits best on the actions of israeli govertnment and settlers against the indigenous people of Palestine! Absolutely, the US has no business sponsoring, supporting and defending a pariah state such as israel!
