Syrian crisis overshadows aid delivery to Palestinians, UN says
Donors are choosing Syria emergency over Gaza humanitarian crisis, refugee agency says.
The Syrian crisis that has left millions of people dependent on international aid has caused the reduction of funds to assist Palestinians, a UN envoy to the region said Tuesday.
"We are doing better in obtaining resources for Syria emergency than we are getting for Gaza," said Filippo Grandi, Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
The agency has asked donors why they aren't giving more food money for Gaza and the answer has been "because that type of resource has gone to Syria," Grandi told reporters in New York.
More than half a million Palestinian refugees who reside inside Syria have received less aid from donor countries during the war than Syrians inside Syria affected by the same conflict, he said.
