Meshal: All options against Israel are open, including war
Hamas politburo chief meets in Damascus with Palestinian leaders, including PFLP's Ahmed Jibril.
Hamas political leader Khaled Meshal said on Saturday that all options against Israel remain open, including war, Channel 10 news reported.
"We will do everything to obtain the rights stolen from us, including confrontation with the enemy," he told journalists.
Meshal was meeting with senior members of Palestinian terrorist organizations, including Ahmed Jibril, the head of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
Jibril said that he supports efforts to achieve Palestinian reconciliation. Regarding Israel, he added that Palestinians are being asked to relinquish their rights "first and foremost, armed resistance."
Jibril also said that Palestinians are being asked to "recognize the Zionist entity and accept the conditions put forth by the Quartet.
Earlier this week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov urged Meshal to stop militants in the Gaza Strip from firing rockets against Israel.
Lavrov made his request in a telephone meeting, which according to Russian news agencies covered a variety of issues regarding the Middle East.
The Russian foreign minister told Meshal that the recent increase in rocket fire was unacceptable. Meshal responded by reiterating Hamas' declared stance that it was not interested in an escalation of tensions with Israel and would continue to try to maintain calm in the area.
Lavrov also emphasized to Meshal the importance with which he viewed a reconciliation between Hamas and its rival Palestinian faction, Fatah.
