Man boards Israir flight carrying semi-automatic rifle
Passenger, who passed through several security checks, worked as a guard and had license to carry M-1 carbine.
It emerged Tuesday that an Israir passenger boarded a flight from Tel Aviv to Eilat earlier in the month while he was carrying a semi-automatic rifle.
The passenger was able to pass through several stages of security checks without anyone noticing the M-1 carbine in his bag. Only when the passenger actually boarded the flight did a stewardess notice the firearm. Security personnel were contacted and the other passengers disembarked from the flight.
A source at the aviation authority said Tuesday that the passenger was a security guard who was licensed to carry the weapon. After the situation was clarified, the passengers re-boarded and the man flew with the rifle stowed in the luggage compartment of the plane.
