Likud account manager suspected of embezzling NIS 1 million

Account manager questioned after two-week investigation, says she needed money to cover medical expenses.

By Roni Singer-Heruti

Police on Wednesday questioned an account Manager for Likud on suspicion that she embezzled NIS 1 million of the party's funds.

The account manager told the police she needed the money to cover medical expenses.

She will be brought to the Tel Aviv Magistrates Court on Wednesday afternoon for an extension of her remand.

The investigation was opened two weeks ago after Likud Director-General Gadi Arieli and his deputy, Rafi Duek, filed a complaint against an account manager in Likud's headquarters in Metzudat Ze'ev in Tel Aviv, on suspicion of embezzlement and check fraud for her personal use.

The embezzlement was discovered on the eve of Passover during a routine review of Likud's books.

After consulting with Attorney General Menachem Mazuz, the party decided to suspend the account manager and file a complaint against her.

Almost all the high profile politicians being investigated today are either from the Likud or are former Likudniks. So when Bibi says that the Likud is the cleanest party, is having a joke at the Likud's expense or does he honestly believe that the Israeli pubic are so easily fooled by his velvet tongue?
