Lebanon suspects mass infiltration of Islamist terrorists
Security officials probing whether Sunni Islamists entered Lebanon as tourists with plans to carry out attacks.
By DPA Tags: Lebanon Israel terrorism Israel newsLebanon's security apparatus are looking into claims that hundreds of Islamist fundamentalists loyal to Al-Qaida have entered Lebanon during the summer as tourists and remain in the country to plan terrorist attacks, a security official said Wednesday.
The high-ranking official who spoke on condition of anonymity told the German Press Agency dpa, "our job is to look into these claims ... to see if these claims are true."
Lebanese media reported that around 700 Arab nationals - extremists from Sunni fundamentalist groups such as the international errorist network Al-Qaida - entered Lebanon in mid-August and never left the country.
According to the reports, the extremists were planning terror attacks inside Lebanon and in several neighboring Arab states.
The source said the Lebanese security forces had received some information from Arab intelligence departments about suspects fleeing to Lebanon and the authorities are looking into these cases.
Many observers fear that some of those extremists may try to turn Lebanon into a new launching pad for attacks against Westerners and Israel.
During the summer and earlier this year, several Katyusha rockets were fired into northern Israel from southern Lebanon. No one has claimed responsibility, but many believe that Sunni fundamentalist groups are behind such attacks.

Why are Islamic terrorist going from one country to another exporting their violence? Why doesn't one Islamic state attract immigrants from the others to build science, culture, industry, media, education? It seems like a large portion of the Moslem world is yearning to regress totally to medieval times and try and impose their chaotic image on others. Time moves on, and most Islamic states have vibrant secular citizens who want to see Islam modern, and not languish in feudal repressive habits of the past. Still, why isn't there one free democratic Arab country?

The Lebanese decided wrongly to make Israel enemy number one and wasted the chance to make peace with the Jewish state. Whether or not this was based on pressure from Hezbollah or not does not matter.The fact of the matter remains that Lebanon has become an enemy state for Israel so any unrest and war there is good news for Israel. Hezbollah will have to fight Al Qaeda which is good news for Israel as any rockets send into Israel will have to be retaliated by the IDF. The way it goes now Lebanon will soon cease to exist as a democracy and that was the choice of the people. A pity but the next time Lebanon provokes Israel we will not be so soft on them.
Hizbollah should be the folks most frightened by this development since Sunni fanatics consider Shiites blasphemers, and Hizbollah targets are pretty easy pickings. Time for Israel to establish a secret understanding and cooperation with them to thwart a common enemy.

The Lebanese government of Hezbollah has terrorized its own citizens, supported terrorists killing US soldiers in Beirut and Iraq, and now want sympathy when another group of terrorists threaten their lair. Just what is meant by the words "Islamist Terrorist"? These words are deliberately designed to invoke irrational fear in those who don't know any better. Well it has not worked on me.

Doesnt matter who attacks israel from leb soil. Any attack should result in retaliation against Leb. This is like a hez trick to try to hide its activities and blame someone else for upcoming attacks. Netenyahu must make it clear to the Lebs that its up to them to prevent all attacks on israel if they wish to continue be able to drive around and fly around. Bridges and airports make great targets for IAF.
