Mahmoud Rafee found guilty of planning southern Lebanon attack that killed Islamic Jihad militant.
By Reuters Tags: Lebanon Islamic Jihad Israel newsA Lebanese man was sentenced to death on Thursday for masterminding a bombing in southern Lebanon that killed a senior member of the Palestinian militant group and his brother in 2006, judicial sources said.
The suspect, Mahmoud Rafee, was arrested in June 2006 and confessed to links with Israeli intelligence. A military court also sentenced Palestinian Hassan Khatab to death in absentia in the case.
Mahmoud Majzoub, known as Abu Hamze, and his brother Nidal, also an Islamic Jihad member, were killed in a car bomb in the port city of Sidon.
The sentencing comes after Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Monday asked France to wield its power in the international arena and take a stance against any possibility of an Israeli attack on Lebanon.
During talks with the president of France's senate, Gerard Gérard Larcher, Berri said the world must force Israel to abide wholly by United Nations Resolution 1701 - which put an end to the 2006 war with Hezbollah - in order to ensure the security of the entire Middle East.
Syria last month vowed to stand by Lebanon's side in the case of an Israeli attack, but Israel has declared that it has no intention go to war with its northern neighbor.

If Israel keeps burning its allies like this, the next high profile Israeli assassination will be 100 albino Israelis trying to sneak into Sweden to snuff an old lady. The Lebanese parliament speaker is putting the guy on the table. Unless Israel has a lot of albino hitmen, it better step up and negotiate freedom for the guy.
Amnesty and Co. will not sound a pip over the fate of these men. After all, they were "found" guilty with aiding Israel. If the Lebanese prez or anyone for this matter, was subjected to the same methods of Interrogation these 2 Individuals experienced, anyone would admit guilt to the same accusations
The quote: "Nabih Berri on Monday asked France to wield its power in the international arena and take a stance against any possibility of an Israeli attack on Lebanon." You left out from a previous article he was told to control Hezbollah and there would never be a war to begin with. This remark in fact upset the Arab press because he placed the blame on Lebanon not Israel. Why was that left out this time?
