Knesset cmte. passes bill banning aid to terrorists' families
By Gideon Alon, Yair Ettinger and Haaretz CorrespondentsThe Knesset Constitution, Law, and Justice Committee unanimously approved a bill Wednesday that states that an individual who gives money to terrorists? family members will be considered a terror financier, and could face seven-to-ten years in prison.
The bill, discussed by the committee over the course of 16 meetings, will provide security forces additional tools in the fight against terror, by cutting off the sources of terror funding.
According to Knesset Constitution, Law, and Justice Committee chairman, MK Michael Eitan (Likud), the committee invested a great deal of time in formulating the wording of the bill, to find the balance between the need to join the international war on terror and terror-funding and the need to maintain individual rights. Eitan said that the bill can serve as an example to other countries on how to fight terror organizations and their financiers while upholding human rights.
