Kiryat Motzkin man suspected in mother's attempted mercy killing
Police: Suspect confessed to giving victim large quantity of pills on multiple occasions.
By Jack Khoury and Haaretz CorrespondentA 58-year-old Kiryat Motzkin man was arrested Sunday morning for allegedly trying to kill his mother, in what he described as a "mercy killing."
Zevulun regional police commander Jamal Hakrush told Haaretz that the suspect came to the station and confessed to trying to end his mother's life by giving her a large amount of pills about one week ago.
The 86-year-old woman was home at the time. After feeling ill, she was taken to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa for treatment and then returned home.
The elderly woman was hospitalized for a second time on Saturday, and her son told police that he once again gave her pills for the purpose of killing her.
The woman remains hospitalized. Her son was brought on Sunday to a hearing regarding the extension of his remand.
