Katsav invites Moroccan King Mohammed VI to visit Israel
Katsav says visit would help boost mood of peace, expresses hope Israel and Morocco will renew diplomatic ties.
By Amiram Barkat and Haaretz CorrespondentPresident Moshe Katsav has invited Moroccan King Mohammed VI to Israel. Katsav extended the invitation Wednesday to Andre Azoulay, a Jewish senior adviser to the king who is currently in Israel.
Katsav said the visit would help to boost the mood of peace in the region, and expressed hope that Israel and Morocco would renew diplomatic relations.
Azoulay and heads of Morocco's Jewish community participated Wednesday in a special convention held by the president in honor of Moroccan Jewry. Also attending the event were Sephardic Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar and MKs Ruhama Avraham and Eli Aflalo.
The president of Morocco's Jewish community, Serge Bardugo, told Katsav that the event has attracted much interest in the Moroccan media. This week, the Moroccan French-language daily, l'Economie, published an interview with Katsav ahead of the event.
