Justice Minister taps Yehuda Weinstein as next attorney general
Ministry: Yaakov Neeman convinced Weinstein is most suitable candidate to face the challenges of the role.
By Tomer Zarchin Tags: Israel newsRenowned lawyer Yehuda Weinstein has been tapped by Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman as the next attorney general, after his top choice removed his name from the shortlist of four candidates.
A statement from the Justice Ministry said that Neeman had passed his recommendation on to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, once he was convinced that Weinstein was the most suitable candidate to face the challenges of the role.
Neeman's original choice, Yedidia Stern, dropped out of the race Wednesday, citing the decision by the government not to divide the job between two people.
Stern's announcement came, however, a day after Haaretz revealed a personal relationship between him and Neeman, including the fact that the two had taken several holidays abroad together. Neeman had neglected to inform the rest of the cabinet of the extent of his ties to Stern.
