King Abdullah II of Jordan has spoken with leaders of U.S. Arab, Muslim and Jewish organizations about efforts to restart a process to bring peace between the Palestinians and Israelis.

The Jordanian Embassy says Abdullah told the Americans in two separate meetings Friday that resolving the six-decade-old problem is urgent and must include two states that guarantee Israel's security and give the Palestinians an independent state.

He also again endorsed the Arab Peace Initiative, offered by Saudi Arabia, which offers Israel official recognition by all Arab states in exchange for withdrawal from territory Israel took in the 1967 war.

Abdullah will discuss the situation with President Barack Obama in the White House on Tuesday.
