Jordan king: Iran may give up nukes if Mideast conflict resolved
Jordan's King Abdullah: Israel, Palestinians in desperate need of U.S. attention in negotiations.
By Haaretz Service Tags: Jordan king Israel news JordanJordan's King Abdullah said on Sunday that solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict could lead to Iran giving up its nuclear weapons program.
"If we solve the Israeli-Palestinian problem, why would Iran want to spend so much money on a nuclear program? It makes no sense," Abdullah said in a CNN interview with correspondent Fareed Zakaria aired on Sunday.
During the interview, Abdullah said negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians were in "desperate need" of the undivided attention of the United States.
While recognizing the numerous demands the Obama government is facing, Abdullah was still critical about the U.S. role in negotiations in the region.
"I think the credibility of the U.S. is under question now," Abdullah said.
Speaking about the general situation in the Middle East, Abdullah said "The core issue is the Israeli-Palestinian problem. All the conflicts in our part of the world lead to Jerusalem."
"If we solve this problem, we begin to relieve all the other pressure points inside of the Middle East," Abdullah said.
Abdullah rejected the notion that Jordan could be turned into a Palestinian state, asking "What sense would that make?"
"Jordan absolutely does not want anything to do with anything to do with the West Bank. [The Palestinians] want their own state," Abdullah said, "We will not have any role in the West Bank."
Meanwhile last week, Abdullah met with President Shimon Peres in Davos, Switzerland where the two leaders discussed restarting the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians.
Abdullah expressed concern to Peres over the standstill in the peace process, saying that it could affect the entire region.
"There could be regional ramifications," Abdullah told Peres, adding that he hopes the negotiations with the Palestinian Authority will restart soon based on a mutual agreement for a two-state solution.
"There is a consensus amongst the Israeli people regarding a two-state solution," Peres told Abdullah. "Israel is willing to return to the negotiations table right away, and we must make the great efforts to restart the peace process."

R: "Your post refers to Jordan and 'Mandate Palestine' as if they were two different countries." The territory EAST of the Jordan river was always exempt from the provisions of the Balfour Declaration, and that REQUIRED an administration division between the two territories. R: "The first Partition of Palestine was imposed by the British in 1922" No, the ADMINISTRATIVE DIVISION of "Transjordan" was built into the Articles of Mandate itself i.e. in Article 25. R: "and created the Kingdom of Transjordan." 1946, not 1922 R: "Transjordan took 78% of the land" True R: "leaving only 22% for the Jewish National Home (now Israel)." False. What was left was still "Palestine", and the Jewish National Home was still only "in Palestine", not "of Palestine". Nothing from Balfour to Sanremo to Mandate ever mentioned "the Jewish national Home OF Palestine", only "a Jewish national home IN Palestine". Prove me wrong, Realist.
s: "The San Remo Resolution of 1920 resulted by International Law that Palestine is the Homeland for the Jewish People" No, actually, it didn't. It said that a "a national home for the Jewish people" would be established "in Palestine". It most definitely did not say "of Palestine". You are claiming (incorectly) that it was the latter, when it was, in fact, describing only the former. It rather makes a difference, as in.... s: "and not to be another Arab sovereign country." No, that is your inference, and it is derived entirely from your first claim. And since your original claim is incorrect then your inference is, indeed, baseless. The ONLY obligation that the British had was to "establish a national home for the Jewish people", the *nature* and *extent* of which was entirely up to the British to decide.
With comments like this they may start to not take you as seriously as we know they currently do.
I read almost every post. Not 1 person mentioned the Bible. This isn't about kingdoms. Leaders, and even people, are being used as pawns to annihalate the Jews. People have so much hatred for the Jews returning to their land even though God said He would do so. God said it was His land, for His people. No, Iran isn't going to give up their nukes. The Jordan king isn't stupid (other than he forgot Iran said they didn't have nukes...only striving for electricity for their people). Yes, many will be destroyed. Psalms 83, Isaiah 17 and Ezekial 38,39 are all in the near future. Put away your foolish talking. You are being used, blinded, by the ruler of this world. Seek God while He can be found. Read His word, the Holy Bible. Time is short. There isn't any real solution to the Israel/Palestine conflict. The land will be divided and the world will be judged. The land is God's and Israel has been told never to sell or divide the land.Quit pushing them to give up what God gave them.
"the international law that palestine is the homeland for the jewish people etc.." But, there was no palestine in history where the palestinians themselves are trying to return to ! Say nothing for the jews to return to a history that dose not existed only in the imagination of the palestinian ! Jews have no where to go except to their own history that surpassed the history of any other nation that exist today. Isn't that the heart of the problem where every one struggling to find any miss information to solve ?!
of history serve as the basis for the "historic claim" for a Jewish Homeland in Palestine? Would the US accept a long forgotten decree from the Spanish Viceroy of New Spain to be binding on the US Consitution? Come on! We live in the present, and should abide by the current laws. We all know that International Law has been largely reworked after WW2, with a new approach to things such as war crimes, ethnic cleansing etc. All things very much relevant to events surrounding the creation of the State of Israel and its subsequent relations with its inhabitants and neighbours.
how many wars has israel started, and how many nukes do they have pointed at european capitals, and on their gifted dolphin subs? please cut the zionist crap and make a peace deal before a deal is made for you.............
The San Remo Resolution of 1920 resulted by International Law that Palestine is the Homeland for the Jewish People and not to be another Arab sovereign country. The Anglo-American Treaty between Great Britain and the United States recognized that Palestine was the Homeland for the Jewish People, it was ratified by the U.S. Congress in 1924. That treaty is established by the U.S. Constitution and is Anerican law.
No,Sir. All World ills and problems will be finished when AIPAC stops its control on stupid Americans and The Palestinian People have their own State!
what drivel...of course he knows iran will NOT give up their nuclear weapons program no matter what peace deal is signed...this is all kabuki theatre...trojan horses...the muslim world is trying to get obama to do what the arabs have not been able to do since 1948. They really thought "change" meant dropping support for israel. If obama had any strategic mind and any guts, he would clearly say, ok, we've got 2 armies surrounding iran...pincer their asses, free the people, decapitate the ruling mullahs, dismantle all of the military and nuclear infrastructure, and leave. NO occupying force...just leave and go into Afghanistan /Pakistan full force... syria, lebanon, and hamas will have been effectively neutered...this IS the right move tactics wise. This is a real opportunity to FINALLY defang the whole middle east. If people really want peace, this is the way...
I think most people on this talkback would agree with you that King Abdullah is worthy of respect. That's why this ludicrous idea of his about Iran giving up its nuclear weapons ambitions seems so strange. And to say that all the problems in the Mid East stem from the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is just mouthing the age-old Arab excuse for not taking responsibility for their own schemes and failures.
"All the conflicts in our part of the world lead to Jerusalem." What? There are more conflicts in the Mid East tied to Sunni/Shiite rivalries than to Jerusalem. And what makes Abdullah think Iran gives a damn about the Palestinians? If they did, would they threaten Israel with nuclear weapons? A nuclear attack would kill those in Gaza and the West Bank as well.
is a dictator.but one who is very cooperative to israel.keep up the vitriol against him and see what happens.when jordan turns to islamization you will not be happy.hes even demonizing iran by saying they have nukes.hes spewing your neocon propaganda and hes still critiqued.you know that iran even with nukes wouldnt attack israel with them because they'd kill millions of muslims.but if israel nuked iran how many jews would die?not many.what do you think is more likely, given that israel has been in numerous wars and iran one, which was instigated by us puppet saddam.are you people delusional or just stupid?you will only have security when your neighbors do.
what drivel...of course he knows iran will NOT give up their nuclear weapons program no matter what peace deal is signed...this is all kabuki theatre...trojan horses...the muslim world is trying to get obama to do what the arabs have not been able to do since 1948. So...without a Palestinian-israeli conflict there would be no need for Iran's nukes? Iran is not trying to gain hegemony in the region? How simplistic! The King usually sounds rational; his public pronouncements often appear weighed, even balanced.
The King is not really a nut-case but his not so secret intense hatred for Israel pops out every now and then. He is well aware of Iran's desire to eliminate Israel.
Jordan and integrity? The 60 years of shame. No direction - no policy. The thieves of Baghdad were cute. The stealing rulers of the Muslim nations are not funny. It is impossible to negotiate or deal seriously with this super rich crooks.
The King of Jordan ignores that Iran have asserted repeatdly that intends to destroy Israel. However the King tries to increase the voices waiting for the USA to put pressure and obligue Israel to concessions.
The notion that an attack will make Iranians rally behind the Mullas is, as we say it in Hindi, "kaam na karne ke bahane" (excuse to avoid doing the obvious right!) I think the Iranians will hate their government even more for bringing home "another defeat", "another disgrace", that too from a country that never fired a bullet at Iran all these years. You can also drop some 1 million DVD's explaining your point to the persians (what a shame they bring to the word).
Your post refers to Jordan and "Mandate Palestine" as if they were two different countries. "Mandate Palestine" included the whole of what is now Jordan, formerly Transjordan. The first Partition of Palestine was imposed by the British in 1922 and created the Kingdom of Transjordan. Transjordan took 78% of the land leaving only 22% for the Jewish National Home (now Israel). Maybe you will be able to elect your Palestinian Queen as the first president of the Palestinian Republic. Or maybe someone else: it is up to the voters.
Iran doesn't care about palestinians. They them as an excuse to justify their hostile actions but they don't care. They wouldn't end their nuclear program for anybody. Right now the single most important project in Iran for their future regional & global political and military ambitions can only be achieved with nukes. Iran want to be the only regional superpower possibly through tactics of getting the west to weaken Israel whilst they covertly develop nukes. They are also investing in their conventional military which will be used to bully their neighbors. They are almost certainly working on ICBM capability, launching animals into space was more about developing ICBM technology than science. Once they have nukes and ICBMS then can try influence future US policy in the region making them a global power Abdullah is just saying what he thinks the US & Israel want to hear as an excuse push Obama into putting the squeeze on Israel to kill idea of Jordan being the palestinian state.
Iran just announced its intention to build 10 more enrichment facilities - regardless of the Israel-Pal conflict.
Thank you for letting us all know what the Palestinians really want. Most Palestinians already live in Jordan so there is no need for them to move. All they need to do is vote out their King and then Jordan will be the Palestinian state. You may remember that your country was founded because people stopped taking orders from a foreign king. Why don't you want the Palestinians to have the same rights that you enjoy as an American? You may be right that a lot of Arabs want to live in Israel but that doesn't mean they have the right. Millions of people all over the world also want to live in your country, the USA, but you need a Green Card to be a legal immigrant. That is just the way it is. Since you mentioned the Jewish right of return, let me remind you that Jews do not want the right of return to Arab countries that massacred and expelled their families. Jews want to live as a free people in their own country. Nothing that you can do or say will take away their right to do this.
You seem like u have been tutered by the same instructor. In Arabic, there is a saying:- learning from the same "Sheikh". Now that Google can help you expand your knowledge, I hope than you can develope various opinions. King Abdullah is a smart, young, 1/2 British monarch married to a very attractive, presentable lady from a Palestinian dessant. He is 100% pro-Western individual, who is changing his peoples backward thinking through a great educational system. Parts of his country could,ve been part of Greater palestine at some historic era, and was mainly inhabitted, that is why the Palestinians refugees and their dessandents make a good part of the demogaphic mix that includes original inhabitants, Syrians, Iraqis, Saudis and Sarcissians. Most of the 5.5 Million Palestinians who still live in mandate Palestine have never set foot in Jordan. The refugees have become part Jordanised, Your solution is similar to saying that New York is a Jewish city, so all Israelis should move to NY
I expected more from Abdullah then to try using the Iran "threat" to push Israel. Iran is Shiit while Palestinian's are Suni. Persians in general hate arabs with a passion. Every Persian friend that I have says so openly. This is a result partially of the Iran Iraq war, but also just plain racism. The only reason Iran support the Palestinians is that they have a common enemy. if that stops, Iran will call the Palestinians traitors. Iran's stance with regards to Israel has only to do with iran's aspirations in the muslim world (i.e. to be the hero...). Iran will nto use a bomb for only two reasons. 1. they don't have one, 2. they are afraid of retaliation.
iran goal, and other arab state including Jordan, is eliminating the State of Israel. Palestinian muslims must be relocated to Jordan, according to 1920 UN resolution.
somebody should remind him how often israel save his little 'palestinian state' and perhaps inform him that the next time the syrians send tanks his way, israel won't stand up for him. better he goes away and jordan becomes the real palestinian state it was meant to be.
flying carpet I want to sell to you !
I mean, Iranian occupation. Give the Kurds their country and we will give the arabs in Palestine their third country.
Thank the Almighty. But the conflict is so easy to resolve. Arabs have 22 countries, two in Palestine, Jordan and Gaza. Jordan + Gaza IS the arab country in Palestine. Iran is trying to resolve the conflict by forcing Israel with their nuclear bomb. Israel should do the same: Solve the Kurdish problem or we will bomb you. Arabs have 22 countries, as I said. Kurds have none. Their country is under arab Syrian, Iraqui and muslim Turkish and IRANIAN
I am truly shocked! I thought the Iranian nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only. Is the king suggesting it could be a military one? And if so, why is Iran building a bomb and not his majesty? After all, 70% of his citizens are Palestinians? Ofr are the Palestinians Iranians? What a load of...!
Funny !! But don't clog your front page with that kind of "information"
And then they may not
THE BEST THE JEWS CAN GIVE IS THE DEMILITIRIZED STATE A SHIFT OF SOME ARABS TO ISRAEL 1500 A YEAR A LAND SWAP AND EAST JERUSALEM THE PALESTINIAN CAPITAL . THE REFUGEES FROM 1947 WIILL NOT ACCEPT THIS .
King Abdullah believe in Ahmadinejad tales.
absolute wrong !! Iran will never give back to his Bomb.if Israeli-Palestinian conflict is resolved they will find another conflict. Its easily done.no need to teach them how to do it.
I am sure that he dont think really a nanosecond what he say.....
"...If we solve the Israeli Palestinian problem, why would Iran want to spend so much money on a nuclear program? It makes no sense, Abdullah said in a CNN interview..." Since when is Iran interested in what makes sense? That's one Nor does King Abdullah make sense believing that what goes on in the Middle East needs to make sense...That's two
Palestinian dont want to live in Jordan they want to go home to their land and home palestine! Israel need to stop occupation give what is Palestinian to the palestinian, and if they dont have a right to return, jews should have right to return is well!
The best joke I ever heard: all these years, the Iranian atomic program was supposed to be driven for medical purposes only!!!
- in the region that you could think of. let's hope he's right. it remains to be true that the mounting pressure on iran is the right thing to do regardless of how quickly one can get to direct negotiations between the israelis & the palestinians. it's also a question of how much the domestic pressures obama has to face will allow him to give full attention to the resolution of the ME conflict & to maintain that attention. just as much as other global issues will allow him to do so. it's always a mistake to assume that obama is something like superhuman /that US power & influence could ever be totally autonomous, ie that the world's number one superpower could be something close to 'omnipotent'. in any case, all the best luck to obama.
from Samaria residing family.
What''s he smoking?
"Israel is willing to return to the negotiations table right away, and we must make the great efforts to restart the peace process." you are selling this sentence for 60 years. and 3000 years. and at the same time you are running your conspiracy and war pig protocols
King Abdullah says Iran may give up its nuclear weapons program if there is a comprehensive Middle East peace. What about the Israeli nukes do this not conceren King Abdullah!
ground breaking idea v2.0 come out? this is the most important topic. everything else comparing to this is not important
What a desperate attempt to get negotiations underway.
I saw King Abdullah's address on CNN last night, and I think he got his estimation of Iran's intentions all wrong. I'm Muslim, but even I believe Iran is up to no good. Iran is trying to establish some sort of dark hegemony over the Middle East, to subjugate the Arab world and emerge as the balancer to Israel in the region. But whereas Israel is trying to get some sort of peace deal hammered out with the Palestinians, crazy Ahmedinejad has no intentions for peace. He doesn't care about the welfare of the Gazan people; he's more interested in seeing the conflict there prolonged so that Israel's economy and morale continue to drain as it pumps more manpower, money and diplomatic capital into improving the security situation. Similarly, Ahmedinejad intends to continue pumping arms into Gaza and Lebanon to keep the moderate Arabs divided, and to prevent them from unifying against the Iranian threat. I DON'T trust Iran one little bit, and I don't feel sorry for thinking so.
WILL THEY ALSO REVIEW IMF, WB, FED, ECB, ALL ROTCHILD COMPANIES, GENETIC FOOD COMPANIES AND ALL INVOLVED IN CONSPIRACY AND ALL THOSE WHO WORK FOR ZIONIST PROTOCOLS?
what irrational argument. iran wants nukes in order to become a regional superpower and a world player. iran's obsession is with israel and her destruction. iran does not care about the palestinians any more than the majority of arabs do. if the arabs cared about the palestinians then they would not be living in refugee camps.
Invite each Palestinian back to his/her home in Jordan and make it permanent. Presto, chango, no war, no conflict just Pals living together in harmony. ( if the pals don't seek to over throw this mini king as they did his father resulting in 30,000 dead terrorist pals.) That would be the solution to all this 'conflict'.
LIAR COME FROM TO INVADE HOLY LAND. YOU ARE THE LAST TO DESERVE LAND THERE.
Another mad hatter, mad as a march hare. I doubt Israel takes him or any other muslim seriouly as being a truth teller.
2. Throughout all Europe, and by means of relations with Europe, in other continents also, we must create ferments, discords and hostility. Therein we gain a double advantage.
famine, oil shortage, global warming (if you believe it exists), drought in Sahara, road accidents, flight delays,
TALMUD AND MASONIC CATHOLIC CONSPIRACY. THIS IS THE ONLY PROBLEM.
Its said many times, pals cause are only a diversion for the west.
the joke(lie) of the day! certain peoples seem to live in a world of fanatasy. its about time they get real!
Boy is the king naive, one of the dumbest things I've heard in a long time ... Iran will give up it's nukes if there is peace with the Palestinians? Yeah, right. Iran doesn't care a bit about the Palestinians, Iran uses them as a lame excuse to further its ambitions in the Middle East in order to become a regional power. Iran uses the Palestinian issue to "win" the hearts of the Muslim world trying to take over where the Arabs governments have miserably failed.
since 2004 Jordan has been revoking her citizens* Jordanian citizenship, if they don*t have Israeli permits to reside in the WB. Isn*t this a human rights violation or what? Then why the international silence about it? Abdullah, here*s a simple solution: let your people come home to Jordan, ALL of them!
The King of Jordan is either on drugs or trying to manipulate Israel with a make believe carrot. Iran is committed and Koranically obsessed with the destruction of Israel. Read the Koran, it is riddled with Jewish hatred. Iran doesn't care about Palestinians. In FACT, in a sane universe, Iran (and the King) would be demanding the TOTAL CESSATION OF ARAB TERRORISM because it is only that which will result in any prosperity for the Palestinians. Iran is committed to the opposite of this. The game of nearly the entire Arab world is to chip away at Israel in order to destroy the state of Israel over time, regardless of how long it takes. The inability to accept the reality of Israel's existence as a U.N. founded nation is what the King and anyone else who claims to care about peace in the area must deal with. But the Arab regimes cater to their radical elements with the opposite line.
This jumped-up king is desperate to avoid facing the fact that his Kingdom is the only Palestinian state there is or is likely to be. More than half of "Palestine" is in Jordan and more than half of the Jordanians are ethnically Palestinian Arabs. The real two state solution is the one dictated by the first Partition of Palestine in 1922: Israel is the Jewish state and Jordan is the Palestinian state. There is no evidence to support this king's self-serving claim that Iranian policy is positively affected by peace processes of any kind. The last time progress was made towards a peace process was the signing of the Oslo Treaty 1993. This led Iran to expand its support of Hamas terrorism in a successful attempt to prevent the peace process from leading to peace. In the Middle East, all crises lead to Teheran.
And Iran doesn't want to blow up Israel. Iran wants to be a regional power. THE regional power. Iran was invaded by Russia and England during WWII. Its democratic government was overthrown by the USA, and the Israelis helped to prop up the Shah's secret police. Iran's nuclear ambitions must be understood in light of these facts. Yes, Iran's present government is repugnant, but Iranian nationalism will survive Ahmadinejad's inevitable fall.
