Jordan arrests militants linked to attack on Israeli envoy
Jordan police say since failed attack last month there has been a police crackdown across the country.
By The Associated Press Tags: Israel newsA Jordanian security official said on Sunday that authorities have arrested dozens of Muslim militants in connection with a failed bomb attack on Israeli diplomats last month.
Since the attack authorities have detained dozens of suspects in a police crackdown, most of whom are Salafists - militants who seek to revive strict Muslim doctrine dating back to the era of the 6th Century Prophet Muhammad.
He said the crackdown was continuing across Jordan.
The official declined to provide other details and insisted on anonymity because he was not allowed to speak to the media.
No one was killed or injured in the Jan. 14 attack on a convoy of Israeli diplomats heading home for the weekend. It was the first roadside bombing in Jordan and exposed a security gap for Israeli diplomats.
The January 14 blast occurred at around 6 p.m. close to the Allenby Bridge crossing between Jordan and the West Bank. No one was hurt. Israel said following the start of an investigation on the matter that the Jordanian authorities would handle the entire inquiry regarding the attack.
