Israelis in D.C. suburb shaken up after swastikas painted on homes

Police launch investigation into hate crime after vandals target largely Israel neighborhood in Rockville, MD.

The Jewish community of Rockville, Maryland was shaken up over the weekend, after unknown perpetrators spray-painted several swastikas early Saturday on homes in a predominantly Israeli neighborhood in the Washington, D.C. suburb.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which they have labeled a hate crime.

The vandalism took place in a neighborhood home to many Israelis, who call their close-knit community a kibbutz. Several months ago, Israeli children were attacked in what residents say was an anti-Semitic assault. As a result, members of the community have requested increased security.
