Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli doesn't want to pay taxes in Israel

Refaeli looking to save hundreds of thousands of shekels annually by changing her status.

By Moti Bassok Tags: Israel news

Bar Refaeli has asked the Israel Tax Authority to grant her nonresident status for tax purposes.

Her representatives are negotiating with the authority and have said she is considering setting up an overseas company for tax purposes. She will receive an answer within a few weeks.

The ITA declined to comment on Tuesday, saying such information is confidential.

Refaeli has paid tax here over the years as required, but is now looking at ways to save hundreds of thousands of shekels annually by changing her status.

It seems the authority will find a solution in an effort to keep her paying at least some Israeli taxes.

The question of residency status for tax purposes revolves around issues such as how many days a year a person spends in Israel, where he works and if he owns a home here.

In any case, Refaeli does most of her work in countries that have tax treaties with Israel, so she will most likely pay part of her taxes here and part abroad.

"We do not deal with gossip and do not respond to rumors," Refaeli's representatives said.

How many Israeli's, Americans, etc. try and escape paying more taxes than they would normally? If not, there would be no need for Swiss Banks. Tax evasion is due to high taxes. Duh! As for service in the IDf, is she alone there as well? If she had no fame for beauty, she'd have no fame for this. An ugly nobody would be ignored.

yossi beilin, his wife and children pay full taxes in money and in all duties as loyal and lawful citizens of the State of Israel. many times has there been criticism to yossi beilin, but never to his integrity and loyalty to his country and the Jewish people, as well as his humanitarian principles as a citizen of the world.

Sheesh, she does what every law-obiding citizen does, trying to pay less tax in a legal way, and now she is treated as a criminal? Again proof of 'the Jewish state' being a sectarian regime.

Bar is doing nothing illegal and is a source of pride for the country. She is getting government rulings for everything. What about the Haredim who don't work at all and don't serve in the army and sponge. I guess the haredim are lefities too according to this convoluted logic. Bar is doing what most people would do in her shoes.

My mum married a Brit and came to live in the UK. My wife married me and came to live in the UK (after the olympics we go back). Every other Israeli I know came here because of spouses. All work, pay taxes and respect this country. Please send your examples to prove the contrary.

Don't the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and lots of other rich Brits do exactly the same thing by setting up off shore residences to avoid paying taxes in their home country. Does that offend you as much as the Israelis who may do the same thing?

If her heart is right with God...her actions will be right! Why do they print these personal stories anyways? Publicity? ? no confidentiality Is there no-one who can write about Godly people in Israel? To illuminate the God of Israel to the world ? Instead they write about the world .... they want to be like the world... ! REJECTED Elohim because they wanted to be like the world- so God gave them Saul... Now they still turn & bad mouth-reject their leaders so God will turned them over to their worldly sinful desires....curse. Same old boring sin...same old darkness.... same worldly shroud of death. WAKE-UP O ISRAEL don't fall for satan's deceptions...like the world has fallen! They look good on the surface but underneath is rotten, hypocrisy, lies, deception & death. The grass IS not greener on the other side ... she will find out !

You're just jealous she can get away with it. As long as no laws are broken, it's totally legitimate to lower one's tax burden. If the tax authority is authorizing it, well, then why not? Difference between her and everyone else is that she's willing to forgo residency in the country. If any of you do the same, you can presumably get the same deal.

#2 are you delusional? why is she an embarressment to the Jewish people? She has accountants working for trying to get her the best deal possible. Like most rich people she is trying to stay rich, whats the harm in that? Its not like we get anything in return for paying taxes in Israel.

In every country were there is a high and punitive tax regime like Israel, high earners take their talents abroad were they will retain more of their earnings. When Thatcher, in the UK, lowered top-rate tax from 90% to 40% the achievers flocked back, tax revenues rose and the country boomed.

sorry but who cares about this little blond sexy model? She realy has nothing intelligent to say, but nice as photo model. Sorry but news papers should not write about her as if she has something important to say... Just print a sexy photo of her at the back page next to the comics and weather forecast. That is her place, just being beautifull and sexy for fun.

Many of the rich pay little in taxes if they can get away with it
    • Bloodyscot
    • 13.01.10
    • 09:20

There are many loopholes in the tax laws but most are for companies that are borderline legal, the trick is to stay one step ahead of changing laws. If the common people knew how little many of the rich really pay in taxes they would be shocked. Many of the newly rich pay alot at first until they learn how to use the system.

So Ms. Rafaeli does not want to serve in Israel's army like most of her Israeli counterparts. She also doe not want to pay taxes in Israel. Nor does she want to date Israeli men, prefering famous foreigners. So maybe Rafaeli should move permanently to Los Angeles? Good riddence.
