Israeli soldier killed in West Bank shooting attack
Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades claim shooting; soldier named as Staff Sgt. Yair Tourjeman, 20; militants seize PA ministry, parliament in Jenin.
An Israel Defense Forces soldier was killed Tuesday afternoon in a shooting attack near the West Bank settlement of Mevo Dotan, south of Jenin.
The soldier, identified as Staff Sergeant Yair Tourjeman, 20, from Kiryat Arba, was critically wounded from a burst of gunshots fired from long range as he was sitting in his tent in an army base.
The gunmen, who positioned themselves on a nearby hill, managed to escape. Unable to identify the gunmen, IDF soldiers did not return fire.
The wounded soldier was airlifted to Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv, where he died of his injuries.
The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a militant faction of Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement, claimed responsibility for the attack, and said it was in retaliation for the IDF's north Gaza operation, which ended last weekend.
Authorities have notified the soldier's family of his death.

The militants are demanding that the PA pay monthly salaries and pensions to the children of those Palestinians who were killed during the intifada.
Palestinian sources say the armed men, led by Al-Aqsa Brigades strongman Zakariya Zubeidi, entered the offices in central Jenin and told clerks they had "10 minutes to leave the area." Later, they voiced their demands. The militant group has often taken over buildings belonging to the Palestinian Authority.
IDF kills two militants near Gaza settlementIDF troops killed two Palestinian militants who were planting an explosive device near the security fence of a settlement in the northern Gaza Strip on Tuesday morning.
The troops said they opened fire on two armed men they had spotted dragging an object toward the fence south of Kibbutz Erez.
After killing the militants, the soldiers examined the object and found the militants had been carrying an explosive device which they intended to plant in the area.
It was later revealed that the two militants killed belonged to the Hamas militant wing.
Earlier Tuesday, four mortar shells landed in the southern Gaza settlement of Morag in the Gush Katif settlement bloc. No casualties or damage were reported in the incident.
Security forces arrested 17 wanted militants in a predawn raid in the West Bank on Tuesday.
IDF troops arrested two of the militants in Tul Karm and five more in Azun, near the West Bank town of Qalqilyah.
Six more wanted Palestinians were detained in Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank, one was arrested in the nearby camp of Deheisheh and three more were arrested in Dura, south of Hebron.
