Israeli official: U.S. is not doing enough on Iran nukes
Senior official blasts Bush for not enlisting Russian, Chinese backing; IDF Chief: We must be ready if efforts on Iran fail.
By Yossi Melman Tags: Iran US Iran nuclearA senior Israeli official has fiercely criticized U.S. President George Bush's administration for the way it has dealt with the Iranian nuclear issue.
The official said that the administration was not doing what was required of it to create an international coalition and wide agreement to pressure Iran over its nuclear program.
Criticism from senior members of Israel's political echelon with regard to U.S. policy on the matter is rare.
The official mainly spoke out against Bush's failure to enlist support from China, Russia and, to a certain extent, India, for increasing pressure on Iran and North Korea.
According to the official, the Bush administration has insisted on stressing matters such as human rights in China and its policy on Taiwan, and as a result, has neglected to gain its support in the struggle against Iran.
The official added that the approach of the Bush administration has been the same toward Russia - focusing on human rights and on the federation's struggles with Chechnya - thus allowing both China and Russia to take a "negativistic" approach to the Americans.
Meanwhile, Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi called for international pressure on Iran, but said that the IDF recognized the need to prepare in the event that global efforts fail.
"The international community must act with determination to stop the nuclearization of Iran, but should this action not succeed, we in the Israel Defence Forces must prepare for any scenario," Ashkenazi said.
"In the coming years the need to strike at significant long-range targets will become far more important, therefore the capability to act both defensively and offensively against various threats will be upgraded greatly with a strong emphasis on long-range capability," he said without elaborating.

Since when do americans care about what Israel wants? Israel is in for a very rude awakening.
Israel needs to stop building settlements in controversial areas. Jerusalem needs to be internationalized. Israel is not the center of the universe!!!!!
Michael Mazur of Australia wrote "If you want to see real jew and Israel hating in America, go ahead, do it." Sadly, you may be correct, and they are in a precarious position, less than 2% of our population, although enormously more influential than that number would suggest due to high levels of civic engagement vs. Joe Sixpack who can't get off the couch to vote. But Joe will stir to action when Israel causes the loss of his children foreign wars and his comfortable lifestyle by bringing down the world economy. It's called blowback.
You must be kidding me the world needs to force zion to allow hundreds of inspectors to visit dimona and the nukes in the mountains..Re-open the USS LIBERTY investigation and abolish the balfour decleration as it was signed under duress..also end all aid until they get on their own land and a full restitution and release of all palestinians
What the senior Israeli official barely refrained from really saying, but checked himself in time, was that the jews controlled America - past tense - and now he is helplessly venting his frustration that that control is beginning to slip away. As this can be seen as the high water mark of jewish control, which will never again be attained, i can only hope that Israel notes this well and does not imagine that it can do a false flag and sink a US vessel in the Persian Gulf and have the world think it was the Iranians. Nobody will believe that kind of stunt anymore, so don't do it as this is the Internet era, and anomalies as they surface will be instantly made available, bypassing your controlled media, to anyone paying attention. The alternative is to commence nuking Iran yourselves in the belief that Bush will keep his promise of coming to your aid as you are being retaliated against. If you want to see real jew and Israel hating in America, go ahead, do it.
Don't we send you enough of our hard earned stolen money and weapons to fight your own wars. Oh yeah, forgot, Iran can defend itself unlike the Palestinians.
Where is all the pathetic whining about "anti-Semitism" and other nonsense. Come on you Zionists, are you asleep at the wheel here? We need some screeching retorts in defense of Israel, the indefensible. Or are you finally starting to realize that, outside of your own tiny circle, more and more civilized humans are casting off the yolk of belief in the moral superiority of Israel? Better late than never I suppose.
"The official said that the administration was not doing what was REQUIRED OF IT"!!!!! There you go folks, damn American politicians have the nerve to REFUSE to do as they are told. Israel will want their bribe money back, no more "trips" to Israel and all the perks which go with that little scheme (click! click!) Plus, "just you wait and see whom we allow to be "elected" next time". BUT, "there is time to think as you should. Just ignore the 16 reports from those anti-Israel, Iranian-loving intelligence agencies and act on the TRUTH. Which is, WHATEVER WE SAY IT IS" - some zionist, part-owner of the American Administration. Q: How do you make a zionist "squirm"? A: Make him think that HIS kids will have to die to "protect Israel, NOT YOURS!
If Israel cannot survive and prosper without the United States then Israelis ought to consider coming here to live. It would be good for US and good for them.
Israel has the nerve to talk about human rights despite how it has treated the Palestinians?! Not every Israeli Arab or Palestinian woman and child is a Hamas terrorist! Israel is a state which openly practises racism and apartheid, it does not abide by the IAEA or the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (Iran is a signatory), and it's main objective is to keep the status quo with no resolution to Palestinian oppression or peace with its Arab neighbours. Israel also interferes too much in the foreign affairs of the United States with the powerful AIPAC lobbyists. Israel is responsible for its own problems which it has created and not properly dealt with in a logical and humane way since its inception in 1948.
The information you are posting, sounds very similar to what has led the U.S. into Iraq... Oh I forgot, you will probably respond, well every intelligence agency thought the same and those weapons were moved to Syria! Oh really? While under constant satellite survey by the U.S. and Israel??? I would say, if Israel is such an ally, then help out in Iraq! Ooops! Israel has its hands full with the West Bank, Gaza, Jerusalem and Ramallah... Israel has its hand full and now wants to tackle Iran, which has a defense treaty with Syria...
The U.S. can't help and we are using NATO for things we can't deal with. The U.S. is broke and spending untolds amount of borrowed cash from Saudi's to finance our ventures into the Middle East! Three more reasons the U.S. can't help: 1) IRAQ! 2) The falling dollar! 3) Oil Producing Countries switching currency from the dollar to the Euro and others... Peace, -DJ...
To #33... What the heck are you talking about? Israel saving the world by bombing Osirak? Funny! I remember the U.S. policy along with the CIA all to clearly. In fact, I remember Reagan selling weapons and chemical precursors through Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia to attack Iran. I remember all to well, Donald Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam twice and the second visit as Special Envoy to Reagan, while just six months earlier, Saddam had gassed the Kurds in Hilabja... Please explain?
The U.S. has its hands full already, by upsetting Russia and China. My Government wants to have a double standard with China in recognizing Beiing as the capital, but continues to sell arms to Taiwan and vows to defend Taiwan. The U.S. has Russia upset with so called, Missile Defense, supposedly aimed at defending against North Korea and Iran. However, it doesn't make sense and what the U.S. is really trying to do is box Russia in and take about a percentage of her first strike or relatory response, by using Japan and Alaska. Finally, Israel should fight their own battles. Iran is a threat to you, and not the U.S. I am sick of my country getting involved in others affairs... Now, Israel along with Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia receive a little of 10 billion in military aid from the U.S. every year. The U.S. doesn't care about you, but has always maintained a policy of balance of power! Try to tackle Iran, for the other countries surrounding won't give overflight!
The sooner the US dumps Israel and THEIR warmongering mentality the better for everyone.
The USA no longer consents to be a colony of Israel. No more billions to Israel while AIE makes sure our veterans with PTSD don't get care and Greenspan ruined our economy for the ziocon wars and atrocities. Israel no longer exists for America - your rudeness to JCS Mullen was noted and will be talked of for a long, long time. But Israel is one its own. Now and forever, past fed up with whining and mass murder and torture. Israel is the rogue state not Iran.
40 billion a year worth of US intelligence counts for nothing of course, I dont think most Americans want to deal with the fallout of an Iran attack- namely a brutal economic recession or worse after oil goes to $200 a barrel, i.e gasoline $10 a gallon, loaf of bread $10... which will only enrich Russia and all the other muslum oil producer countries.
Well, the US isn't doing enough to bust AIPAC for espionage. We need to put more Mossad AIPAC spies in prison and stop their bribing Congress. Israel is a fascist apartheit police state run by religious extremists. But then, so is the US. Maybe saner minds will prevail, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
Have Bush deal with that issue, as it is clear, unjust, and there for everybody to see. The Iranian nuclear threat is imaginary, like all hasbara.
why not start with Israel's secret illegal nukes? when are inspectors going to do inspections? when is Israel going to allow Vanunu to speak and travel freely?
Go right ahead israel and start a war with Iran, Russia and matbe China. Russia has already pledged that an attack on Iran is an attack on them, they have a treaty. Our numbskull president has stated the U.S. will be behind israel even if they start a war. Uhhh Not really. We are NOT going to send our kids off to die in another war like Iraq for you and the president knows this. Our military will NOT take orders from a lunatic and will do the wishes of the people. So if your pitiful psychotic paranoid country wants to bomb a power plant and fight half the world.....you go it alone.
Israel has done nothing BUT been clamoring for war with Iran. It has coaxed our idiot president to send massive naval fleets off the Iranian coast in hopes that Iran would do something stupid but they did not. They got the other idiot blar of the U.K. to send his troops into Iranian waters to start an incident but instead they were captured and the Iranians handled it beautifully. Israel even attacked Irans puppet Hezballah and even bombed Syria, Irans ally to provoke a response from Iran! So qit your lieing about israel wanting PEACE. Peace was never on the agenda.
Its time to frog-march the Ziocons.
I sorry massuh...we go whack Iran now....... Give us a break! Welfare recipients can be like thisat times, eneough is never enough.more handouts please! Gimme, Gimme Gimme!! Go engage Iran your dang selves. Good grief! Is Is it the evangelicals trying to get ya all to ignite Armageddon or what?? Geez..........
"It is of course quite improper of the USA to have concerns like human rights. We manage to do fine without being bothered by such concerns, and the USA should do likewise." There is a fine Jewish tradition of concern for humanity and human rights. While Israel often fails to live up to that tradition, it is dispiriting to see her come to the point of attacking the USA for following that tradition. After all, Israel owes her very existence to the US concern over the human rights of Jews in Palestine.
Actually, the greater failing of our Dear Leader is not doing enough - let's be real here - not doing anything about Israel's nukes. Or illegal settlements. Or daily violations of international law. I'd keep going but there's not enough space.
The US and Jews have gone into war mode, no doubt about it, you could tell them that the earth would disengtrate and they would still go ahead with a war in Iran becuase#1 America is broke and number 2 the jews just are the most arrogant piece of crap goverment the world has ever seen because western goverments have given them the right and we as nations of the world have given them the right and feel sorry for them, what a load of crap, 20million russians dead, millions of others around the world dead , yes Hitler was the cause, but 6 milliomn dead and they want to create a war that could see 6 billion dead. Wake up world?
Just great, now Israel is going to start one more war that they will expect the USA to finish. Iraq wasn't enough for Netanyhu, now he is going to get his way with Iran... When will God come and save us all from these Crazy People?
Bolton has no credibility. He was one of the chefs cooking the intelligence on Iraq, wasn't he?
"Clickfool,it took dignified Brits 60 years to repay the war debt to the US last year. An astronomical sum? No,the total debt amounted to 200(two hundred) million dollars." I don't know where you got this amount from, Aboslute Sweden? From up your arse, like all your other "facts"? In 1945 we owed America $4,330,000,000, a colossal amount for those days.
screw "senior Israeli officials" and the "senior members of Israel's political echelon" and any other nIsraelis who mfeel this way.Israel's 40years of occupation has created madness and insanity and a tidal wave of anti-american hatred across the world far beyond that of the Arab/Muslim world.Almost 4000 GIs and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have died in this neocon, American-likkudite "Clean Break"(1996), AIPAC cheered-on war for Israel.America is fed up and has had it with Bush's wars without end, especially when they are fought not just for another country but because of another country's horrific polioies
Did you know that bush and rice has put that man into another position as the WMD ADVISOR??? OF COURSE israel is whining big time again about iran, they know full well that "their" man is gonna work for them concerning iran as he did iraq. The reports will mean nothing only the lies of paranoid fantics will win the warmongering game and those who wish the demise of another arab nation which is only wiping out israels enemies and making more enemies for the rest of the world namely the USA, but who cares right, as long as poor little israel gets its way. GO FIGURE!

The Israelis and the Israeli Lobby in the USA are at it one more time. They pushed for war in Iraq and now they began to shed doubts on the Iran report. They want the USA to do thier dirty work and attack Iran just as they were able to do in Iraq.
The only flaw in any NIE is not yet having destroyed the neocons, the Israel Lobby, and any Israeli that stands in the way of full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 242, 194, 338, the Geneva Conventions, and International Law What Israel, her Israel Lobby, and her neocons desire is to successfully manipulate America to permit and support Israel's illegal occupation of Palestine (which takes care of her internal enemies, the Palestinians) while manipulating America to illegally attack any nation Israel and her Israel Lobby sends us to attack (which takes care of her external enemies). So far this has worked succesfully to the extent that the Israelis have for decade after decade continued to occupy the Palestinian territories and they have had America attack Iraq for them and will have us attacking Iran for them in the next few months - thus offing Israel's two biggest foes
or is israel to scared to stirke iran by itself? i think they are.
That even though the USA will regularly prostitute itself in the name of supporting zionist expansionism she does not like being told that she is a whore. You want the USA to whack Iran, just as it had previously whacked Iraq? Sure, whisper sweet nothings into her ear and hope she will do you bidding. But if she decides that she won't do THAT - simply can not bring herself to do THAT - then *don't* start telling her she is a good-for-nothing, dirty whore. She doesn't like being told that. Not One Little Bit. This statement by this "senior Israeli official" will not be easily forgotten, and it will go over like a lead balloon over in Washington DC.
Whatever the U.S. does about Iran is its business - and is not a matter for Israel to decide. Israelis have had too much to say about our foreign policy. It's time they mind their own business and learn to get along with their neighbors.
How many more gallons of American blood needs to be wasted to prop up a bastard . Israel has had its fangs in the neck of the American taxpayer way too long. Let the very rich Jews support Israel with their money and lives of their children. THE REST OF US HAVE HAD ENOUGH!
Are you really listening to John Bolton? Last time he give some advice, we got involved in Iraqi and Bush's fantasy (and his) about spreading freedom and democracy in the Mideast. But I got a good title for his next book,"Listening to John Bolton is not a Option".
He has as much credibility in the US as a snake oil saleman. If you will recall, even the Repub senators refused to send him to the UN forcing Bush to make a recess appt which expired and he later withdrew because there would be no confirmation. He was a liar during Iraq along with Wolfowicz and other neocons and remains a liar and a pariah to this day. Believe him if you want, but nobody else will. What a weasel.
America can do more on Israel nukes (probably absent) than on Iran nukes (certainly absent). Why should Iran be pressured over its nuclear program now it appears that no nuclear arms are involved? The only way Israel can try to force something drastic is to start bombing -- with devastating consequences for itself. Sanctions won't work, so the most plausible move would be to show respect and politely propose Tehran to solve Israel's problem at the conference table. That probably would work (assuming that the US stays out). Question is, is Israel hoping that a grim face is more attractive than a smile in order to become popular in the neighbourhood? A bully is a potential loser, especially if he can't count on a big fella to do the dirty work for him.
You guys get all worked up over an article that Haaretz has published about a sill officer who opened its mouth, putting blame on other governments for not confronting Iran. Well guess what, its time we started to take initiative ourselves. When Israel bombed Iraq, even the US was critical of Israel, I think Israel can handle it again. They are only going to thank us in the longrun, and hold us as heroes once the dust clears and people realized how stupid they were for not dealing with Iran. So sit tight folks, take out some pop corn, milk duds, and a large coke and enjoy the show.
Dude, are you kidding me? With quoting Bolton? Do you who know this guy is? He is one of the neocon bunch who lied the US into war with Iraq (you remember the untrue WMD's and connection of 9/11 to saddam), he is also the incompetent piece of crap in the UN representing the US during 2nd Lebanon war (July 2006) who vetoed EVERY SINGLE vote of the UN against the chopping of the Lebanese civilians which resulted in over 1300 civilians (mostly children) killed, not to mention the last two days of the war that Israel deposited over a MILLION Cluster bombs in heavily populated civilian areas that have been killing civilians, children, and UN clean-up crew ever since. I HOPE TO GOD you are not THAT gullible!!!! Yeah, if godfather 'bolton' says so, it must be true, eh? PUHLEEZ!
Barak has at least the guts to call a spade a spade. US sanctions on iran have not worked. Much of islamic terror is due to iran and the 12th madhi business. On the other hand, olmert the "inside man" and bs specialist, is in lockstep with bush and condi with their failed policies because Olmert is primariy a rear end kisser. He would never challenge the US.He is primarily the problem for israel. Netanyahu, Shteiner, Landau even Barak would be 1000X better than this legal imbecile Olmert.Even the israeli arabs laugh at his weakness. They are now agitating and causing problems.
Sorry dude, your source in your post #2 is as tainted and corrupted as they come. The guy belong to the MEK, a designated terrorist organization bu the US State department itself! Moreover, this organization whose ideology is a cross between marxism and islamism has been responsible for much of American & Iranian assassinations in the 70's in the ME, not to mention that during Iran-Iraq war they were based out of Iraq with the support of saddam, and fought against their Iranian BORTHERS. I do NOT know of any more hated group in the HISTORY OF IRAN.You may be happy with their stories of 1001 nights, but let me assure you that they will eventually fulfill the frog & scorpion's legacy. They will sting you at the end as that's the only way they can exist. Right now, eventho a terrorist org, they're under US protection in Iraq, but think about it-we have a proverb in Persian:"that who Fu**es over his own mother will not second guess fu**ing you over." So I won't be surprised if they bit u 2!
Those who say Israel wants war clearly ignore the text of this story itself--Israel is "whining" that American folding its diplomatic efforts to coordinate sanctions against Iran is leaving war as the **only** option for Israel after Iran weaponizes its nuclear capabilities. But then, the subtext for many here is that war is OK, as long as it is Iran's uncontested war against a defenseless (and contemptible) Israel. The problem is that saying that "black is white" and that "war is peace" and inverting this story of Israel attempting to prevent the ultimate necessity of war does not, at day's end, erase Israel's willingness to defend itself if Iran is encouraged to go to war against Jerusalem.
WAAH WAAH WAAH.....WAAH WAAH WAAH WAAAAH WWAAAAHH WWWWWWWAAAAAAHHHHHH. Anybody notice me yet?
You say you want peace Israel but then you create the conditions for perpetual war i.e. settlements, new expansion in East Jerusalem (spreading hopelessness, etc.) Israel, we want to make peace and SHARE.
Eventually, soon, Israel will look like South Africa, and not even the US will be able to shelter it, in fact, the US may begin to take a more balanced view as the weight of carrying Israel increases. The US is not willing to take the pain of confronting Iran for Israel's sake, lets do business instead! Hence, even Saudi Arabia has just recently invited the President of Iran for Hajj, this has never happened. They have seen the situation and they know that they make Iran their enemy at their own peril. Israel is becoming increasingly more isolated.
The Flaws In the Iran Report By John R. BoltonThursday, December 6, 2007; Page A29 Rarely has a document from the supposedly hidden world of intelligence had such an impact as the National Intelligence Estimate released this week. Rarely has an administration been so unprepared for such an event. And rarely have vehement critics of the "intelligence community" on issues such as Iraq's weapons of mass destruction reversed themselves so quickly. All this shows that we not only have a problem interpreting what the mullahs in Tehran are up to, but also a more fundamental problem: Too much of the intelligence community is engaging in policy formulation rather than "intelligence" analysis, and too many in Congress and the media are happy about it. President Bush may not be able to repair his Iran policy (which was not rigorous enough to begin with) in his last year, but he would leave a lasting legacy by returning the intelligence world to its proper function. Consider these flaws in the NIE's "key judgments," which were made public even though approximately 140 pages of analysis, and reams of underlying intelligence, remain classified. First, the headline finding -- that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003 -- is written in a way that guarantees the totality of the conclusions will be misread. In fact, there is little substantive difference between the conclusions of the 2005 NIE on Iran's nuclear capabilities and the 2007 NIE. Moreover, the distinction between "military" and "civilian" programs is highly artificial, since the enrichment of uranium, which all agree Iran is continuing, is critical to civilian and military uses. Indeed, it has always been Iran's "civilian" program that posed the main risk of a nuclear "breakout." The real differences between the NIEs are not in the hard data but in the psychological assessment of the mullahs' motives and objectives. The current NIE freely admits to having only moderate confidence that the suspension continues and says that there are significant gaps in our intelligence and that our analysts dissent from their initial judgment on suspension. This alone should give us considerable pause. Second, the NIE is internally contradictory and insufficiently supported. It implies that Iran is susceptible to diplomatic persuasion and pressure, yet the only event in 2003 that might have affected Iran was our invasion of Iraq and the overthrow of Saddam Hussein, not exactly a diplomatic pas de deux. As undersecretary of state for arms control in 2003, I know we were nowhere near exerting any significant diplomatic pressure on Iran. Nowhere does the NIE explain its logic on this critical point. Moreover, the risks and returns of pursuing a diplomatic strategy are policy calculations, not intelligence judgments. The very public rollout in the NIE of a diplomatic strategy exposes the biases at work behind the Potemkin village of "intelligence."
Always relying on others to come and save you. Fight your own war and solve your own problems. It's enough the damage israel has done with their lies and deception. Remember, "The Truth Will Set You Free".
My, my all the whining and handwringing because the US won't bomb Iran for Israel, what a pity. Our intelligence community has wisened up after Iraq. If Iran needs tending to, the Zionists must use their IDF/IAF and their money and the american voters won't go along for the Zionist hayride this time. Nope. Zionists have a neverending list of countries who are threats while they attack somebody once a month behind BS. Whine as you might. This little dirty deed must be carried out by those doing the whining. Yup, payday will be upon you if you bomb Iran.
I couldn't agree with you more #4. Iran is absolutely no threat to the U.S. This is their problem, and it's kind of sad that they can even criticize us for "not doing enough". Let them come up with a solution, let them make the sacrifices. I for one am sick of the U.S putting it's reputation and safety on the line for Israel.
From the political wing of a proscribed terrorist group to see Israel's way of thinking? We did that when we went to war with Iraq (a war which Israel is notable by it's absence). Remember the guy who would be President Chalabi. It was his organisation which stated that Saddam Hussein was actively pursuing all sorts of nasty stuff. Of which no evidence was ever found. Once bitten twice shy comes to mind
Come on, boys and girls, we need another war. Things in Iraq are getting too copasetic. The extra troops are doing a heck of job. So why not demand that Israel bomb Iran, and while at it, also bomb Syria, and Lebannon. Heck, the price is right. Let's really do a bang up job--no pun intended here--for Israel to do it before Xmas. Hot dog, yeah, that's the ticket. Put old Yitzhak Cohen and the Shas in charge of the operation.
....fiercely criticized U.S. President George Bush's administration for the way it... This is RUDE, Israel. You should be more diplomatic, although everybody knows the US is your SLAVE. Where was your famous politiness and decency, huh?
this guy & some others blew the whole nuclear Iran story wide open in 2002. if he is considered a terrorist it is because he is terrorizing his terrorist supporting country -Iran.
#3 and #4 and #5 and #6--your contempt for Israel subverts your argument as you have missed the main point of what Israeli officials are stating--that they do NOT want war and wish to *avoid* military confrontation with Iran but failure to enforce sanctions will indeed bring an Iranian nuclear weapons capability and the necessity for military action. You would be the last guys in the world who would be pleased if Israel did infact take an independent assessment oif the situation and then decided down the road to take military action against Iran as they believed that Iran was weaponizing its nuclear capability even as the nations of the world took you advice and told Israel to go lump it. This was more or less the scenario that led to the war of 1967. Which you guys didn't like either, yes?
Either Israel gives up her bomb and the middle east stays free of nukes, or she gets used to the idea of MAD ( Mutually Assured Destruction ) Making nukes is not that difficult and Israel's neighbours will aquire them sooner or later, driven on by the threat that Israel's nuclear arsenal poses to them. Who can say what sort of regimes will be in power in the region in 10 or 20 years? If Israel does not want to live under a permanent nuclear threat, it is in her best interest to actively promote a peaceful middle east now, totally free of nukes, and that includes Isareli ones.
That's the core principle for America at this stage. So Israel will be abandoned in favour of the Arabs. Mind you Israel, the day whereupon America starts to become a docile puppet of the Arab oil sheiks, is due to come.
The source for post #2 is a member of a known terrorist group on the official United States list of terrorist organizations. "Jafarzadeh, formerly the US spokesman for the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)" How much can you really trust from known terrorist groups? Hamas? Hezbollah? Get real.
We hear the leaders of the Jewish community complaining loud and clear -- war, war, war, and more war. It's difficult to imagine that Israel -- a nation always at war, always seeking more war -- will be around for another 60 years.
"A senior Israeli official" who hides in the shadows and complains, because if he came out in the light his career would be over... but he's not man enough over this supposedly important issue to do so and raise this issue to the next level. Yet I guess I can't be too hard, since the US had the same with our Generals, who only spoke out once retired about the war in Iraqi. But if anyone thinks this report on Iran wasn't check 12 ways to Sunday are fooling themselves. I'm sure old Dick Cheney tried his best to overturn the finds, as did many others. But somedays, truth does win out and those that wish war can go back to their caves and wait another day.
with Olmert & company, all sniveling whiners. Give us a little more time to get some "good" guys on the job and a grateful US will eventually be given a "gift" from us for all your acknowledged help.
US not doing enough? Forget you and your ungrateful attitude! If you want war, fight it yourself!
to the US. last year. An astronomical sum? No,the total debt amounted to 200(two hundred) million dollars. With whinning, bleating and suspending payments from time to time, due to "urgent needs elsewhere".Until the last year ,when with great pomp the last intallment was covered. So buzz off,you "dignified one".
Why is Israel choosing right now as the time to bang the drum on the losing side of an internal US debate? Bush has been widely discredited as a liar once again in the US with regard to the NIE. Bush is losing badly in internal US politics on this issue. Why is Israel tying themselves to Bush's losing hand? Why is Israel choosing this point in time to make noise, when making noise only shows the US people who was behind Bush's lies? If Israel wants to have any credibility on the Iran issue in the future, I suggest keeping your head low while the US resolves it's internal conflict over Bush lying about Iran's nuke weapons program. This is an internal US policy issue, and Israel should stay out of it if they knew what was good for them. All Israel is doing it hurting their cause by tying themselves to Bush's sinking ship.
The Israelis are undoubtably being restrained by the US from handling this problem on their own and thus the comlaint that the US is not doing enough. The US prime concern is not anti-american sentiment but lack of oil. With China and India on the rise economically, the US does not want to be squeezed on this product that makes the world go round. Their interest in Israel is that there be a modern non-dictatorial government in the oil region on whom they can rely. The US is definitely not the world police coming to the aid of Israel. When the US election next year brings in the Democrats, Israel may decide to deal with Iran on its own since US 'help' will then dry up. If that happens, several Arab country leaders will secretly blessing Israel since they also don't want a nuclear Iran. If that happens, the US may regret that they didn't nuke the Persians back to the stone age themselves, (not a long journey), and seize all their land and resources.
The gentleman said: "In the coming years the need to strike at long-range targets will become far more important, therefore the capability to act will be upgraded greatly with a strong emphasis on long-range capability". I pray the USA and other nations do not supply Israel with these armaments. Give them quassams, nothing more.
Just wait until Hilary or Obama gets elected - you will be PINING BIG TIME for Bush. In the meantime, you better accelerate yuour OWN preparation for dealing with Iran.
Go for it Israel, attack Iran. America will be behind you, way, way, way behind you.
Mr Knowitall is surely joking when he says that ending the "40 year occupation of Palestinian lands" will defuse the hatred of America. Americans were hated throughout the world when I travelled 35 years ago and it had nothing to do with Israel. They are hated precisely for their knowitall attitude and their general ignorance of the world outside their borders. When these two attributes are manifest it is usually in giving advice on subjects they do not understand.
Puh'lease! Without the USA, the entire world would enter a state of lethal chaos. Not doing enough? Isn't it time to take care of yourself? Give a country a fish and they'll eat that day, teach a country to fish and maybe they can handle things on their own. I've had enough of the anti-USA sentiment. If we're so bad, how come everyone wants to live here? Grow up already Israel...France is stepping up to the plate, take a play from their playbook. We're sick of the whining already, which is why we;re the #1 country in the world. We take care of our own...bottom line. Time to take care of your own instead of hoping we always come to your rescue.
The whole world knows that Israel is going to take care of this problem. Like Iraq, lets wake up o ne morning and learn that Israel attacked Iran's nuclear arsenal. War is inevitable so may as well prewempt. 67?
Clearly, Bush does not have the capability to see the big picture as some brilliant President like Nixon did. Unlike Nixon who surrounded himself with brilliant Advisers like Kissinger and others, Bush surrounded himself with less capable people like Rice and even allowed a far less capable person like Antisemite James Baker in machinating policy in foreign affairs. General Ashkenazi is perceptive to know that Israel must be prepared to defend for herself at all times. America does need to have strong and brilliant leadership just as Israel does to meet the challenges ahead and Iran's nuke threat.
More nonsensical Israel-bashing. The conflict between Iran and the West has little to do with the Israel-Palestine conflict. Do you honestly think that Iran really cares about the Palestinians? Why isn't Iran concerned about how Muslims are killing black Muslims in one of the world's most racist genocides ever to occur in human history (in Sudan, of course)? Furthermore, there are many Israelis who would like to withdraw from the West Bank, but Israel has seen what happens when it withdraws unilaterally from territory (look at Gaza.) Israel can only withdraw from the W. Bank if and when there is a responsible Palestinian society capable of taking over the territory.
or does it?
Preemptive strikes are entirely un-Christian, not that the U.S. lives by Christian precepts anymore. However, if the U.S. truly believes that Iran does not pose a threat, as their intelligence aggencies unanimously agree, then why in the name of G_d would they strike Iran?
The original Partition Resolution 0f 1947(181)is the only legally authorised border between israel&Palestine. Here is why: 1.The UN General Assembly inherited its powers on this subject from the League of Nations. 2.Palestine was a Mandate under Art.22 of the League of Nations Covenant. The Mandate is a Trust and the beneficiaries were the people living in Palestine.Great Britain was the Mandatory power and the trustee responsible for its welfare. 3.Britain informed the UN of its intention to relinquish its trusteeship but could not do so until it left the people of Palestine in a viable self governing position. 4.In consultation with the UN Trusteeship Council it proposed the partition of historic Palestine into an Arab state and a jewish state. 5.On Nov.29,1947 the GA adopted Res.181,the Partition R.thus ratifying Britain's proposal. 6.181 is still in the books because both beneficiaries have to benefit before the Trust becomes extinguished. Not relevant that the Arabs rejected it then.
The bad news is that this leaves in place a serious future threat to israeli security. Good news is that with the attack on Iran off the table, Bush admin has no reason to curry favor with Saudis and emirates by pressuring israel to refrain from destroying much of Hamas/Islamic Jihad terrorist infrastructure in Gaza, and also the pressure is off to make unwise concessions to Abbas.
The United states of america is actually considering it's long term interests before Israel's. Never thought I would see the day
of a nation which refuses to sign the NPT, refuses to allow its own nuclear installations to be inspected by the IAEA and which has its own arsenal of non-declared nuclear weapons, should sit down and STFU!
At least they don't recall gas masks from their civilian population like Israel does recently. Anyway Israel must learn that the west provides weapons to Israel and the Arabs so the two will knock each other out and give excuse for the West to come in, clean up and take over.
Iran already has the nuclear know how, you cannot bomb knowledge out of existence, and the sanctions will only further reinforce to Iranians why Iran must not depend upon others for their nuclear fuel needs. The primary goal of the US today must be to defuse the hatred of America by ending the 40 year occupation of Palestinian lands by Israel and to repair relations with the Arab world. Ending the occupation of Palestine by Israel must be the #1 priority of the US after ending our own misguided occupation of Iraq, as war is never the answer, will not solve the problems the region faces and will not bring both sides together, so peace is the only option left and must be given a chance.
state the Russians are building up their naval fleet in the Mediterranean - obviously to protect their own interests, not to support Israeli/Bushism warmongering. And you can bet the Chinese do not want anyone to rock their boat!
"J'lem official: U.S. efforts on Iran are not adequate" If Israel isn't happy about Iran's nuclear ambitions, it should stop this constant, endless, pathetic bleating and whining and do something about them. Let them take military action against Iran any way they can, without involving America or the rest of us, but let them then pay the horrific price. We will not bring the house down on our own heads just to satisfy the bunch of thugs who run Israel, hwoever much they pester and mither.
by Staff Writers Washington (AFP) Dec 11, 2007 Iran resumed its nuclear weapons program in 2004, according to a US-based dissident who said Tuesday that US intelligence had failed to include his findings in a surprise about-face downgrading the Iranian threat. "The weaponization program is alive, is active, and has been resumed since 2004," Iranian opposition figure Alireza Jafarzadeh told AFP, contradicting the US National Intelligence Estimate released a week ago. "The NIE was only partly right," said Jafarzadeh, formerly the US spokesman for the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and author of a book released in January called "The Iran Threat." "They (Iranians) were forced to pause in 2003 because of the tremendous pressure they were under," he said. "They suspended it to consider their next steps, and started again in 2004." In August 2002, Jafarzadeh first reported the existence of secret Iranian nuclear sites at Natanz and Arak, prompting denunciations of Tehran by Washington and hurried inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency. The Iranian regime maintains the NCRI is a "terrorist" front run by disaffected exiles. The group is the political wing of the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization, which is banned in the United States and the European Union. Jafarzadeh was speaking as the United States continued to press for a third round of UN sanctions against Iran despite the new intelligence estimate, arguing that diplomatic pressure caused Tehran to halt its program in 2003. The NIE was a diplomatic bombshell that contradicted forceful US assertions that Iran's nuclear program was a gathering threat that raised the prospect of "World War III." While the NIE expressed with "moderate confidence" that Iran was not now trying to build nuclear weapons, Jafarzadeh said the program had only been suspended in 2003 to evade IAEA inspections. Under the control of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, the top-secret weapons program was in fact moved from one site at Lavizan-Shian and scattered across various underground installations in 2004, he said. Jafarzadeh said he had shared his analysis with contacts in the US intelligence community before the NIE's publication, but suggested a "certain agenda" by some in the community anxious to downplay Iran's threat. "We've gone back and checked every site that we knew of... since 2002 to see if any of those activities were halted in those sites," he told a press conference, presenting slides purporting to show ongoing nuclear activity. "With the exception of Lavizan-Shian... no other site was ever shut down," the Washington-based Jafarzadeh said, arguing that the US intelligence assessment "needs to be fixed." "I don't think the international community, I don't think the United States government can afford to make such mistakes and provide the opportunity for the mullahs to get the bomb before we all know."
How could we???
