Moshe Gafni has represented the Ashkenazi ultra-Orthodox community in the Knesset since 1988. According to all the recent polls, United Torah Judaism will preserve its power in the next Knesset and secure six seats.

I am sure he would be delighted to continue indefinitely a situation where "half the people fought and the other half studied Torah." Of course, those who are doing the fighting (as well as being economically productive and supporting those who are "learning") might be less enamored of that prospect.
