Israeli diplomat flees British anti-Israel demonstrators

Israel's deputy ambassador to U.K. forced to leave lecture in Manchester in police 'get-away' car.

By Danna Harman Tags: anti-Israel Israel Foreign Ministry Israel news

Talya Lador-Fresher, Israel's deputy chief of mission at the Israeli embassy in London, had to be shuffled out a side door and into a "get-away" car by Manchester police on Wednesday, following a lecture she gave at the University of Manchester that was crashed by pro-Palestinian student protestors.

The lecture, on the situation in the Middle East, which was originally supposed to take place months ago, was delayed because of early security concerns at the university - but went ahead Wednesday after university officials promised Ambassador Ron Prosor that his deputy's security would be guaranteed.

And indeed, Lador-Fresher managed to give her talk, although she was interrupted several times by students who hoisted Palestinian flags and called out anti-Israel slogans. But when she had finished speaking and was trying to head out of the auditorium, it became clear to her security that the way out was blocked by more demonstrators who had been waiting there throughout the hour-long event. The demonstrators had identified the Israeli embassy car and were surrounding it.

As such, it was decided by embassy security, together with the Manchester police, to evacuate her through a side door and drive her off campus in a police car. As she was leaving the area, demonstrators attacked the car, in an attempt, she says, to try and break the windshield. Lador-Fresher stressed that it was indeed an "unpleasant" experience which goes to highlight the decreasing lack of civility on campuses in Britain when it comes to Israel.

Ambassador Prosor, in turn, commended his deputy on "her fighting spirit" and said he expected a condemnation of such behavior from the university.

You have to behave as a member of democratic country yourself before lecturing others. Learn to respect laws, stop attacking police, don't use Israelo Arab conflict as an excuse to attack Jews in your country, don't fight people with different opinion and stop using violence as means of expression. Until then, you can just shut up dear anarchist.

until israel respects basic human rights and the international law its institutions and its representatives should be boycotted, divested from and sanctioned. join the BDS campaign to make israel into a democracy - it's about time - as well as end its impunity and hold it accountable for its crimes.

These pro Palestinians activists are banned in the West Bank and Gaza so the only places remain is foreign DEMOCRATIC countries where freedom of expression is still honoured. If Peaceful Marches were allowed in the Occupied West Bank they would not have to go to other countries.

Anti-Semitism? No, anti-Zionism. The real anti-Semitism is the assumption that all Jews support the State of Israel and its violent, racist actions - which is what you imply when you equate anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism. I'm sure the several Jews who took part in the demonstration against Lador-Fresher yesterday agree.

The only reason we even protested was because the Politics Society (who organised the talk) not only refused to allow a pro-Palestinian freedom speaker on the panel but even made it a ticket-only event precisely to discourage critics of the Israeli regime from attending. Those crying that we were opposing "free speech" need to remind themselves that the right to free speech isn't exclusive to diplomats.

Such behavior as displayed against the Israeli diplomat only underscores the lack of substance these and other pro palestinian groups lack. Rather than debate like civilized people they resort to these subhuman tactics. Because they know their claim and arguments are without merit. Tolerance and compromise something that is lacking with these thugs and the community they are speaking for. And one wonders why they still don't have a homeland.

He believed it was impossible to eradicate anti-Semitism in Europe, and therefore opted for setting up a Jewish homeland. That is how political Zionism began. Even today, in democratic countries like Great Britain and France, we can see how right Herzl was in his judgment.

Once Britain was a Christian country. They gave up their ancient gods and religion, their druids, human sacrifices, etc. for JUDAISM. Chrisitanism came from Judaism and in the beguinning it was just another Jewish sect, the Jewish followers of rabbi Yeoshua / Jesus, when he was alive. They imported a religion from a small people, from a far away place. Their holy book: The Bible, the Jewish history book. Also the so called New Testament is a Jewish book, from A to Z (The story of rabbi Yeoshua and his Jewish followers in the Jewish country). They built wonderful churches to worship this rabbi and his (our) God. They adopted Jewish names (Mary, James, Jones, Peter / Simon, Daniel, Sarah, Rachel, Andrew, Mark, Paul, Michael, Joseph, John, etc.). Today they are talking about implementation of sharia law, from a non-Biblical religion. Poor Britain...

    • Lee

    • 21:11

Everytime a Jew speaks up on behalf of Israel, we are accused of "stiffling debate." But when Pals and British thugs interrupt speeches and attack pro-Israel speakers, that's "free speech" at work. In the meantime, the op-ed folks at Haaretz (except maybe Bradley Burston, the only sane one among them) utter not even a word to condemn such behavior. In their minds, the occupation excuses these excesses. They completely miss the point that Israelis are wary of pulling out of the WB precisely because if they do, the world, in a similar fashion, will say nothing about the rockets that are fired into Israel from East Jerusalem. Instead, the same idiots will condemn Israel for responding to these attacks. What a joke!

Last time I checked, Talya Lador-Fresher was Jewish and since it is the responsibility of the CST to provide security for Jewish communities, where the heck were they in all this?! The gentleman who suggests it's time for British Jews to get more aggressive again Islamofascists and their loony-left allies is right up to a point, but we need to get far more vocal, not violent. We do, though, need to show up in numbers to demonstrate our support for Israel and Israelis, and make sure the afore-mentioned thugs don't have it all their own way. Our grandparents stood up to Moseley's Black Shirts, so why are we now so complacent? To the guy who thinks our presence would be censorship of free speech, I take it you don't think what these people did to Israel's deputy ambassador and those wishing to hear her point of view is a problem. I shouldn't need to point out how one-sided that notion is and I do wonder if you'd have the same opinion if there were no Jews involved?
